This 30 year old Blended Grain is part of the Boutique-y Core, bottled at 46% from a marriage of refill cask, ex-Bourbon Hogshead, and Sherry Octave matured Grain whiskies.

We also love a drop of old blended grain. From a marriage of refill casks both ex-Bourbon hogsheads and ex-Sherry octaves. A small batch release of circa 1,000 litres each time Non chill-filtered, and natural cask matured colour."

"Our label design settled for just the one deer, starting with a young buck, getting older, and more dignified, as the whiskies aged, finishing with the dominant stag who has been through some scrapes in his life; older, wiser, and looks a little pissed with everything!
"Our 30 Year Old deer is ‘The Monarch of the Glen’. A dominant stag whose been through some scrapes. We adore the expression on his face. this is a deer that has seen it all!. Boutique-y Whisky artist, Emily Chappell, has captured our brief so perfectly, and has injected her magic into it, as usual. The colours of the labels reflect the colour palette of the Aurora Borealis, while the ‘wave pattern’ across all of the labels symbolises the way the Aurora Borealis is always moving in the sky, if you’ve been lucky enough to see it."

Thompson Bros. Glen Garioch 27 Year

We are on always on the hunt for value, and a 27 year old Glen Garioch at 49.3% for just a tad over $300 fits the bill! This 1998 vintage Glen Garioch was supposedly matured in an oloroso sherry cask, but when the chaps at Thompson Bros. nosed it, they were pretty confident it was actually a Fino Sherry cask. Based on references in the tasting note, they might be right. Exclusive to KWM in Canada!

"We recently received a butt of Glen Garioch 1998, purchased blind based on the outstanding quality of previous casks from this vintage and with confidence, as the purchase order specified a 1st fill sherry butt. However, upon arrival and during our routine sensory analysis (someone's gotta do it), it became immediately apparent from visual assessment that this was not typical of 1st fill oloroso or px sherry, as we had initially expected. Instead, the spirit presented pronounced saline notes, followed by chamomile and fresh bread dough - characteristics that strongly suggest this cask is, in fact, a 1st fill fino sherry butt. We are now highly confident in that conclusion. the combination of distillate, time and oak interplay beautifully here. The nature of buying blind can be a bit risky, but very often those risks pay off in very interesting ways."

The red wine casks used in this bottling were previously used to mature wine from the wine-producing region along the Duero River, in northern Spain, before they arrived with us in Lochranza. This rich, ruby amber coloured whisky is a Premium 12 year old unpeated example of Arran Single Malt.
"The Duero Discovery was initially matured for 6 years in first and second fill bourbon barrels and then transferred into first fill Spanish red wine casks and matured in our dunnage warehouse number 4 under the watchful eye of Distillery Manager Stewart Bowman for a further 6 years.
