Producer Note: "Crafted from a combination of the finest Speyside and Islay Single Malts, including aged GlenAllachie, Batch 2 of our Lum Reek 10-year-old is the perfect balance between peat and rich, fruity character. The spirit was laid to rest in premium Spanish sherry casks, wine barriques and virgin oak casks at The GlenAllachie Distillery. As time passes, the flavours marry and extract additional characteristics from the wood, creating a deliciously sweet yet subtly smoky flavour profile."

This 14 year old Williamson was bottled for Heads & Tails to mark their 10th Anniversary. Williamson is a Scotch whisky euphemism for Laphroaig, a reference to Bessie Williamson, who once owned and operated the distillery. Distilled in 2010, matured in an ex-Bourbon Barrel, and exclusively available in Canada! 51.3%

"It has been two years since we've had a new offering from The Whisky Trail in-store, and with 8 new whiskies that landed, we have a very cool tasting range. We will taste our way through a pair of Blair Athols, 13 year old Dailuaine, 15 year old BenRiach, 20 year old Benrinnes, 35 year old Strathclyde, 49 year old Invergordon, and a mysterious 38 year old Blended Malt, 190 years of Scotch whisky in one tasting. Banter is likely to include trips down random rabbit holes about Knights, stained glass windows, and Highland Coos... and or something completely unrelated!"

Highland Park 12 Year

Highland Park, the northernmost of Scotland's distilleries, dates back to 1798. Definitely an island style with typical smokiness, but with elements of a classic single malt that include a smoothness, roundness and heather-honey accent all its own. Very capable of developing to great ages, the distillery is now making available some older vintages which display considerable depth and richness.

"Matured predominantly in European and American sherry seasoned oak casks, our iconic 12 Year Old single malt whisky is spicy and well-rounded, packed with the flavours of sun-kissed Seville oranges and rich fruitcake spiced with cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves; you’ll find molten heather honey in this whisky’s waves of heathery peat smoke. Why not try it with a handful of wasabi peas on the side or alongside a sizzling, pan-fried rib-eye steak or with smoked salmon and sour cream."
Glenkinchie 12 Year

Glenkinchie has long been known as "The Edinburgh Malt", though that looks set to change in very short order, as the Holyrood Distillery comes online in the heart of Scotland's capital. But nicknames aside, Glenkinchie really should need little in the way of introduction. It has become one of the foremost examples of what we consider the 'typical' Lowlands style: light, floral, elegant.

Producer Tasting Note
Nose: Aromatic, vanilla, cut flowers and beneath, a clean, toasty note. Increasingly sweet and creamy, with fresh citrus, lemon cheesecake.
Palate: Crisp mid-palate then butter icing, lemon cheesecake and freesias.
Finish: Herbal and drying, a little like potpourri.

The Lismore 15 year - showing balanced malt and a lighter touch of sherry than its older siblings. 40%
Glen Grant 18 Year

The Glen Grant 18-Year-Old is aged in (surprise!) oak casks. Given the producer tasting notes below it likely has some sherry cask influence in the mix. Bottled at 43%.
Glengoyne 10 Year

Only 12 miles from Glasgow, and although a Highland by definition, these whiskies are known for a more Lowland style due to the use of unpeated malt. Also unique is the choice of sherry used for cask finishing. Instead of the more common olorosso wood, Glengoyne uses predominately palo cortado, resulting in more nutty flavors. This version has a light nose, and is creamy smooth with notes of vanilla.
