Produced from one of the last archaic vineyard of Langhe region, an open-air museum from a time gone by, with vines older than a hundred years. The vines are onto 100% Vitis Vinifera roots and replicate by propagation. They have therefore maintained, over the decades, the original Barbera characteristics. The small plot, situated in Berri near La Morra, has an excellent exposure and sandy-chalky terrain which guarantees a natural protection from Philloxera. This mixes with the intriguing vine resiliency and its most typical charms imparted from the microclimate and a particularly favorable altitude. The low production per hectare guarantees an intensely rare and rich organoleptic concentration. The wine is refined in oak casks which slowly develop all primary aromas. Pleasant and refined, complex even as a young wine, it is not afraid to be aged in bottle, expressing its solid uniqueness even over the years.

La Savante hails from Gualtallary (1,400m above sea level) where the soil is mostly sand and stone with a calcareous layer underneath. Eleonore Moreau's family had been farming grapes from their vineyards in Chablis since the 1980s and in 2011 she made the decision to produce their own wines rather than selling the fruit to other producers. There's a classic Chablis purity that runs through her wines, in part due to the Kimmeridgian limestone soils that are part of Chablis' claim to fame. Aged in stainless steel (without the influence of oak), the wines remain on their less for 12 - 18 months prior to bottling. The extended lees times lend them richness and complexity with the classic Chablis minerality at the forefront.

Today, Johannes Selbach and his wife Barbara, with the help of son Sebastian, manage their vineyards and winery with passion and respect for the estate’s long-held traditions. A substantial portion of their 24 hectares of vines are on their original rootstocks, in Zeltinger, Schlossberg, and Sonnenuhr; Wehlener Sonnenuhr; and, Graacher and Bernkasteler Graben. These vineyards of weathered Devonian slate are on a steep, contiguous slope facing south-southwest and represent some of the most prestigious sites in all of the Middle Mosel, in fact 85% of the Selbach’s vines are on steep slopes. The Selbach family’s heritage in the wine business dates to 1600: Selbach’s ancestors shipped wines down the Mosel in their own ships, the wine carried in oak barrels made by cooper Matthias Oster, the great-grandfather on the paternal side of the family. Thus, the winery developed as both a top estate producing some of the region’s best wine, and also as a négociant and brokerage firm, consolidating the production of smaller growers.
