We don't often see whiskies from the closed Caperdonich distillery anymore. This one from our friends at the Boutique-y Whisky Company was bottled after 22 years at 48.6%.
Producer Description: "Our fifth batch from the long closed Caperdonich distillery is a 22 Year Old, a release of just 250 bottles at 48.6% abv. Caperdonich means ‘secret well’ or ‘Sunday well’ in Scot Gaelic, and is one of the springs that feed into the Glen Grant Burn. There’s an old legend that says it would never run dry, but it did once, in the long hot summer of 1976"

"The label features a reference to the pipe that once ran between Caperdonich and the Glen Grant distillery. It describes a night time scene of misdemeanour. A ‘donich caper if you will… The perpetrators are attempting to drill into the spirit pipe between Caperdonich and its sister distillery, Glen Grant to get at the liquor-rich goodness within."

Only a dozen bottles of this presumably sherried Glengoyne are coming to KWM. This is a single malt we don't often see bottled independently, which makes it a curiosity. Rocking an impressive 90.5pts on Whisky Base.

"Our label highlights the distillery straddling the A81, the road which officially demarcates Highlands from Lowlands and also the West Highland Way. The A81 road is made of hot coals due to fact that the name of the farm distillery was Burnfoot when founded in 1833."

We don't see much in the way of independently bottled Longmorn, which is a shame because it is lovely whisky. After Diageo's failed attempt at line pricing Mortlach with Macallan, Chivas Bros. for some reason saw fit to try copying said bad idea with Longmorn... So we were stoked when this one came around!

We haven't seen official bottlings from Sweden's Mackmyra Distillery in a few years, but independent bottlings... this is our second in as many years! So still rare, but cool none the less.
Producer Description: "Our second batch from Sweden’s Mackmyra distillery is a 5 Year Old, a release of just 250 bottles at 50.3% abv. The Mackmyra distillery was founded in 1999. They built a second distillery in 2012, and since April 2013 all distillation has taken place at the new distillery."

"This label is set deep in the forests of Sweden. In the foreground is Angela D’Orazio – their head distiller, styled like one of the elves from lord of the rings (complete with a tiara, and the elf-ears) There is a small trug full of cloudberries sitting beside a 100 litre cask that’s outside the Bodås mine. Once an iron ore mine, and now one of Mackmyra’s main warehouses. The cloudberries have been removed on this label and corn cobs lie by the base of the tree."
Boutique-y Blended Malt 1 Batch 3 18Year

Call it Balfiddich, Glenvenie or Burnside... when you teaspoon Balvenie, or any single malt for that matter, you can't refer to the distillery by name. Even if they say they teaspooned the cask, and actually didn't. Confused? This is basically Balvenie with possibly a drop of another single malt blended in (likely Glenfiddich or Kinninvie).
Producer Description: "Our third batch of this ‘teaspooned’ Speyside whisky is an 18 Year Old, a release of just 1,049 bottles at 47.3% abv. There are only five classifications allowed in Scotch Whisky; Single Malt, Single Grain, Blended Malt, Blended Grain, and Blended Scotch. ‘Teaspooning’ was introduced in the 1980’s by William Grant & Sons." Glentauchers is a KWM staff favourite, and a highly underappreciated malt. We've had good luck with previous Boutique-y bottlings of Glentauchers, and we don't expect this will be any different.

"They do things traditionally at Glentauchers. They haven't always been so suspicious of new technologies, however, as the scene on this label depicts… Glentauchers was a distillery that experimented with 'silent malt' at the beginning of the 20th century - that's malt whisky made in column stills. Revolutionary, eh? Unless, as it turned out to be the case, it's just not a 'thing'. Oops."

"Its name comes from Scots Gaelic for ‘island of the goats’. Did you know there is a Goat Island in the middle of Niagara Falls? It’s the inspiration for our Inchgower label. Standing between the Bridal Veil Falls and the Horseshoe Falls you can look across to Canada from Goat Island, which we’ve depicted with fields of icewine."
