Nota Bene is Black Hills signature red wine - a Bordeaux style blend of Merlot plus the Cabernet grapes' Sauvignon and Franc. The 2022 vintage is made up of 46% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 18% Cabernet Franc that spent 18 months in French Oak barriques and puncheons (47% new oak) before being bottled.

Founder Moray Tawse purchased his Cherry Avenue property in 2000 and opened his six-level, state-of-the-art winery in 2005. Warm, enticing notes of dark cherry, savoury herbs, mulberry and potpourri on the nose, this Pinot Noir shows a fine balance between ripe fruit and more subtle, evolving characteristics. Why call a cab when you can have a Cab Franc. Okay, we're fooling around with a play on words here because this Canadian red is worth a ride. It's a little lighter than a Cabernet Sauvignon but with just as much finesse. Medium-bodied and smooth with raspberry aromas and flavors of sweet roasted bell pepper and a hint of smokiness. Nice oak and a long, long finish. Great with roast lamb.
