Wolfburn 10 Year Single Malt Scotch
$114.99
Wolfburn turns 10! We've been waiting a long time (ummm... ten years, maybe?) to see this distillery come of age. Wolfburn was a footnote in Scottish distilling history, lost 150 years ago, and little more than a pile of rubble with an immaculate water source when the decision was made to resurrect the name. Raising the old distillery from the dead was impossible, of course, but that didn't mean a new Wolfburn couldn't be commissioned onsite. Fast forward a decade and a bit, and we now have a thriving distillery in Caithness.
Seeing as this is the distillery's first 10-year-old, don't expect it to last long.
Producer Note: "A significant milestone for the Wolfburn distillery – this 10-year-old single malt is its first permanent age statement release. The whisky spent its full maturation in second-fill oloroso sherry casks resulting in a sumptuously sweet, fruit-laden profile, backed by dense oak and silky caramel."
Natural colour, non-chill filtered, and bottled at 46% abv.
Lismore 21 Year
$164.99
This Whisky appeared on Day 8 of our 2023 KWM Whisky Calendar. You can read more about it here.
The Lismore 21 Year is back, with a sharp (although retro) new look. They have done away with the decanter and leather tube, but otherwise the juice is still the same. Is it from Glenfarclas? It might be... but the producers aren't telling!
Old Malt Cask Glen Garioch 13 Year
$121.99
Distilled in 2008, this 13 year old Glen Garioch was matured in a Refill Hogshead cask, and has been bottled at 50%, as is common practice for the Old Malt Cask Range.
G&M Private Collection Tomintoul 1972
$3,199.99
This 1972 vintage Tomintoul has been bottled under the Private Collection range by Gordon & MacPhail, at 43%, after maturing 48 years in a Refill Hogshead Cask. This is a curious malt, by all accounts, with the exception of a 50 year old Samaroli bottling, it is the oldest Tomintoul ever bottled!
G&M Private Collection Dallas Dhu 1981
$2,799.99
No one other than Gordon & MacPhail has bottled a Dallas Dhu since 2014, and even then they have been few and far between. Bottled at 60.1% after 38 years in a Refill American Hogshead cask. Only 3 bottles are coming to KWM! Look at the abv... 60.1% after 38 years... mic drop! 91.5pts Whiskybase
G&M Private Collection St Magdalene 1982
$4,199.99
We love the lost distilleries. Any chance to try whiskies from silent stills nowadays is an occasion to drop everything and clear the calendar. Especially nowadays, when every drop is, give or take, 40 years old. They're never cheap (those days are long gone), but unforgettable experiences rarely are anymore.
In one of the more interesting bits of whisky lore (alongside tales of the wartime bombings and fires at the lost Banff distillery, the flintlock pistols that George Smith used to carry 'round Glenlivet, the early 20th century p*ssing contest between Laphroaig and Lagavulin, and the ever elusive promise of extant drops of Malt Mill), the St. Magdalene distillery (also known as Linlithgow) was actually built on the site of a former leper colony. So, if you're picking up on any meaty notes...
Kidding. (I hope)
This is a trophy bottling, for sure, and incredibly scarce. Refill American Hogshead #2094 gave up only 165 bottles.
Natural colour, non-chill filtered, and bottled at 54.8%
G&M Connoisseurs Choice Teaninich 2009
$149.99
This 13 year old Teaninich was bottled exclusively for Canada at 55.9% after 13 years in a First Fill Sherry Hogshead.
Brave New Spirits Craigellachie 14 Year
$165.99
From the 'A Cask Noir Production' series with those wicked retro labels, a neat Craigellachie, and one of the most interesting cask types we've seen to date. In fact, we had to look it up. This was matured in a First Fill Pacherenc Barrique, a sweet white wine. Intriguing, to say the least. Only 262 bottles from cask #315065.
Natural colour, non-chill filtered, and bottled at 52.3% abv.
Mr. Peat Single Malt Scotch Whisky
$59.99
We weren't looking for Mr. Peat... he found us... and we're glad he did! This heavily peated Scottish single malt is exactly what it promises, nothing more, nothing less... and it is bottled at 46% without colouring or chill-filtration. Best of all, it is very well-priced!
Who is Mr. Peat?
"Mr. Peat is typically Scottish: he is straightforward, he says it as it is, he is pale, relaxed, and exudes self confidence.
"BUT
"Beware the simple brute force of peat will hit you before yo know it so keep the extinguisher ready!"
