El Castro Valtuille Cepas Centenarias
$89.99
Produced by Raul Perez, one of Spain's greatest winemakers, from ancient pre-phylloxera vines in a single vineyard. Valtuille Cepas Centenarias represents one of the most recognized wines of the winery.
The first vintage of the wine was made in 1999.
For its production, they use grapes from a single plot of the sandy clay zone of the “Mata los Pardos” vineyard, one of the most valued and least productive of the town, from which the most elegant wines are obtained.
The plots, facing east, are plowed every year so as not to contaminate the soil. Its yield, barely reaches 4 bunches per vine.
Podere Forte Anfiteatro 2017
$274.99
The Val d’Orcia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2004, encircles the Podere Forte. The estate was founded in 1997 by Pasquale Forte, a visionary entrepreneur who has created a balanced system where every element complements the others, following the principles of organic and biodynamic agriculture. The old concept of the corte romana has been recreated on the 500-ha estate: a place where people, plants and animals coexist in harmony and sustainable self-sufficiency. Wine is the main focus, but Podere Forte is also synonymous with the breeding of Cinta Senese pigs, Chianina cattle and Suffolk sheep, as well as various other farm animals, all living on biodynamic feed. Podere Forte produces its own fertilizers and compost using vine prunings and fallen timber from the woods. The pigs eat acorns and chestnuts in the woods where they roam freely, the bees pollinate the flowers and aromatic herbs in the botanic garden where the hives are. The olive groves cover around 26 hectares and in 2020 production of the first varietal oil, from the Frantoio variety, started.

This is one of the classic California Cabs, and the 2016 vintage, the 35th, earned a perfect 100pt score from Wine Advocate. This Cabernet Sauvignon is big and rich without being overwrought. Lovely aromatic nuances give way to great mouthfeel and length with wonderful, dynamic energy. Aged 20 months in French oak barrel (60% new). The blend is 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc and 6% Petit Verdot.
Wine Advocate, Lisa Perrotti-Brown 100 POINTS: "An extraordinary wine of profound and complex character displaying all the attributes expected of a classic wine of its variety. Wines of this caliber are worth a special effort to find, purchase, and consume. Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is still very tight and youthful, slowly unfurling to reveal a multifaceted wine with tons of black, blue and red fruit sparks – plums, cherries, black currants and red currants – with dark chocolate, cedar chest, black tea and red roses in the background plus wafts of pencil lead and prosciutto. Medium-bodied and firmly textured by superbly ripe, grainy tannins, it has a fantastic core of intense, complex layers, finishing on an edifying mineral note. Wow! 2022–2060. (October 2018)"

Quintarelli Amarone 2015
$559.99
A must for collectors and fine wine lovers! Quintarelli produces its Amarone only in exceptional vintages, and in doing so, crafts the benchmark for all Amarone. Giuseppe Quintarelli passed away in 2012, and the estate now rests in the capable hands of his wife and children. "The 2007 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico was bottled seven months before I tasted it. Grapes undergo a four-month appassimento for extra concentration and intensity. Despite this heavy-handed winemaking technique (in which the clusters lose up to 30% of their water mass in the air-drying process), this is a surprisingly delicate and nuanced wine. The ageing process has definitely broken down and assimilated any of the hard edges that come from dried grapes. In its wake, the wine is polished and tight with a long, silky texture." Monica Larner from Wine Advocate
