Alberta Distillers is probably (almost certainly) the greatest producer of Rye Whisky in the world. The distillery may be more a workhorse than a show pony, but the whisky produced here in the heart of Calgary is surprisingly beautiful and elegant. While the standard 40% Alberta Premium is a great 'every day' sort of drop, this Cask Strength version is on an entirely different level. It's big, bold and bombastic. This Bridgeland Wheat Whisky was not on our radar until the chaps at the Calgary distillery insisted we try a sample. Made from a mash of 80% Red Spring Wheat, and 20% Malted Barley from Penhold Alberta, the spirit was distilled after a long fermentation in pot stills before being filled into cask. It was initially matured in Virgin American Oak, before finishing in French Limousin Toasted Oak, which had been seasoned with Bridgeland's own Moscato Brandy. Bottled at 57%, exclusively for Kensington Wine Market, this is a great-value single-cask Canadian wheat whisky... and boy are we lucky they insisted we try it!

This is from Grain Henge Whisky, which is part of Troubled Monk Brewery of Red Deer, Alberta.
The Arrowwood Rye Whisky release is bottled at 47.5%. It is made from a mash of flaked rye and malted rye that was distilled and then aged in a combination of #1, #3, and #4 New American Oak casks for 4.5 years.
