Like other Alberta distillers bottlings, shockingly affordable! Bottled at 45% and a blend of 12 year old rye whisky and 6 year old small pot rye whisky. Deliciously dark and peppery, although not as much as the standard Alberta Premium.

Forty Creek's Whisky Maker John Hall wanted to create a whisky that got to the heart of what he's tried to do with his distillery. Built primarily on the rye grain he wanted to showcase the spirits style (or heart) while not overwhelming it with oak. While the whisky is rye heavy, it is not 100% rye, as John is a blender and is always looking to add complexity.

Nose: Butterscotch, dark fruit, concentrated grape juice, nose-tingling spirit, maple fudge, vague wafting whispers of sweet mint.
Palate: Sour dark fruit, prune juice, hot pepper then glowing, glimmering spices. Settles down quickly and lingers on and on, yielding a lovely throat burn, hints of walnut skins, dusty rye, barley sugar, dried apricots, fragrant sweet flowers, and wispy willow smoke. The body has a lot of weight, with ever-present heat seasoning the other elements while staying in careful balance with the underlying fruitiness. Each accentuates the other. It becomes even fruitier, and the spiciness begins to centre on ginger after a minute or so. This whisky is spicy, just as Private Cask was, but broader and fruitier and without the corn-cob middle. It displays more floral rye while restraining the bursting spices just a hint. Big, spicy, fruity and rich; very good stuff.
Finish: Medium spicy fade, hints of hot ginger.

Notes from Buffalo Trace Distillery: "The famed Sazerac Coffee House was founded in 1850 on Exchange Alley in New Orleans, Louisiana and soon gained fame as the home of 'America’s First Cocktail' known as the Sazerac. Using rye whiskey in place of the French brandy, a dash of Peychaud Bitters, and Herbsaint, what eventually became the official cocktail of New Orleans was created. This straight rye has a mellow spice and dry sweetness that dances on the tongue, giving pure delight that is worthy of the Sazerac name.
TASTING NOTES: Very mature, with notes of oak, leather molasses and all-spice. The long, warm finish is preceded by notes of mint, eucalyptus, cinnamon, vanilla, and lingering pepper."
