New Riff Distillery uses a High-Rye mash bill for their Bourbon recipe. It consists of 65% Corn, 30% Rye, and 5% Malted Barley. This Single Barrel Bourbon from New Riff is the third to hit Alberta. Barrel number 3344 was distilled in the spring of 2017 and bottled at 53.1%.

Nose: Butterscotch rounding into fresh oak, with hints of vanilla and rye spice.
Palate: Broad, fulsome mouthfeel, leading to a sweeter vanilla accent, before a gathering of rye spices (clove, cinnamon, mint, dark berry) into the finish.
Finish: Long, rye-led finish, with brambly red-black fruits amid white pepper and clove.

Confiscated refers to a fanciful story about a confiscated warehouse of whiskey barrels during prohibition, yadda yadda yadda. Kentucky Owl is a revived brand with roots that go back to its founding in 1879. It was recently relaunched in 2014 with whiskey from an undisclosed source in Kentucky. The brand itself is owned by the Stoli Group of Stolichnaya Vodka infamy. Bottled at 48.2%.

The Silver Screen bottling company is behind this product. They have also put together a James T. Kirk Bourbon and Montgomery Scott Scotch (sadly not available in Alberta). Together with Green River Distilling of Owensboro, Kentucky (formerly called O.Z. Tyler). The distillery began production in 2016 and has been putting whiskey into barrels ever since. The Mash Bill for the Bradshaw Bourbon is 70% Corn, 21% Rye and 9% Malted Barley and bottled at 51.9% ABV which just so happens to be Terry Bradshaw’s career completion percentage. Since the label says this is a Kentucky Straight Bourbon, we know it has to be at least two years old. There is a note on the label that states this as well. Bottled at 51.9%.
