Now that the regulations have changed a bit in the Scotch Whisky world, expect to see more and more of these crazy interesting cask types beginning to surface. For now they're just 'finishes', but I don't think it will be long before we start to see young malts entirely matured in these types of wood. In this case, the beautifully fruity spirit of Teaninich was finished in Calvados (apple brandy, essentially) after probably a decade in American Oak. Cask #707328 52.5%

Don't often see that, do you? A Bourbon cask finish after maturing in...ex-Bourbon, we assume? Ok...that should work. Caol Ila always seems to show its best side in ex-Bourbon anyway, so why not double down, aye? The toastiness of American Oak just seems to wrap Caol Ila's very coastal, smoky, and citric spirit in all the right ways. The outturn from cask #16 was 372 bottes at 51.5%

Glenburgie is one of our favorite distillates here at KWM. This one from Cooper's Choice spent most of its young life in American Oak (almost certainly a Hogshead) before being re-racked into Madeira for a short period. Cask #9598 yielded only 312 bottles, only a handful of which made their way to us. Won't last long. 56%

We will only be seeing 6 bottles, and accordingly we are limiting them to 1 per customer. Distilled in 1990 and matured in a PX Sherry Puncheon for 31 years before bottling at 56.9%.
