Nc'nean is a relatively new (2017) Scottish distillery in the Western Highlands. The 4th release from That Boutique-y Whisky Company is a 5 year old bottled from a single STR cask at 60.1%.

"Nc’nean is one of the new wave of Scottish farm distilleries. Founded in 2017 by Annabel Thomas, on her family’s farm at Drimmin, on the Morvern Peninsula in the Western Highlands. Nc’nean has been designed as the first fully organic modern distillery in Scotland powered by 100% renewable energy."
About the Label
"The farm distillery was designed by the late distilling consultant Jim Swan to produce a light, fruity and estery spirit. A character intensified by slow mashes, long fermentations, horizontal lyne arms, and shell and tube condensers, with a high, narrow spirit cut. Our 5 Year Old Nc’Nean is from a STR (shaved, toasted and re-charred) red wine cask, and bottled at natural cask strength We’ve gone for the classic ‘Whisky Galore’ for our label inspiration for this one. Founder Annabel Thomas is leading her whisky team, affectionately known as the ‘Quiet Rebels,’ up the rocks to their remote distillery on the Morvern Peninsula. That’s the Sound of Mull in the background. They’re carrying crates of whisky cunningly disguised as ‘Doug Treats’ (Doug is the distillery’s dog) and there’s the ‘mark of the Swan’ branded on the leading crate."

Nose: Sweet and fruity; Nectarines, peaches, ripe apples, and some green banana.. Fragrant with honey, British summer hedgerows, lightly floral, with some gentle spices.
Palate: Sweet peaches and vanilla custard, ripe grains, summer grasses, a little aniseed and liquorice - Liquorice Allsorts, and allspice. The short finish is sweet and fruity.
That Boutique-y Whisky Company (TBWC) is part of the Atom Group, which also owns the UK retailer Master of Malt and a number of other subsidiaries. They are a dynamic and innovative firm, who by example invented the Whisky Advent Calendar concept. Established in 2012, TBWC is famous for its playful and colourful labels, which often feature prominent whisky industry figures, tell a story, and or elude to an inside joke. The labels are typically laced with hidden elements and "Easter Eggs."
TBWC bottles whiskies from around the world, though the bulk of their offerings are of Scottish origin. Most of their offerings are small-batch releases, Blended Malts, and Blends. Their "Head of Whisky" is Canadian Sam Simmons.

The result of this mission is this wonderful wee cask of Spirit Of Yorkshire. Laid down in 2018 and fully matured in an ex-Islay barrel which has given it a furtive smooch of peat, this is a beautiful, rich and gently smoky young example of this charming English make. Please note: Velociraptor nurses and pimped forklift trucks are not included with the sale of this bottle."

Nc'nean is one of the most fascinating distilleries going. Net zero carbon emission, entirely organic, socially aware, and now with legit 'of age' whisky. This core range single malt was matured in a mix of red wine, Oloroso sherry, and ex-American whiskey casks (we assume that means not ex-Bourbon, but don't quote us).
Natural colour, non-chill filtered, and bottled at 46% abv.

This 2019 vintage release from Nc'Nean was created by marrying STR red wine, ex-Sherry, and ex-Rivesaltes casks. It has been bottled at 48.5%.

Gordon waved goodbye to one of Scotland’s whisky giants back in 2017, and made his way even further up the west coast to Morvern to lead our whisky production. This 8 year old English single malt was finished in an ex-Islay Cask after initially maturing in a second fill french oak cask. I was bottled at 50.5% as a part of Boutique-y's World of Smoke range.

"Local grains, and a self-cultivated brewers yeast that's over 80 years old is used for their fermentations. This particular liquid has been matured in Second Fill French Oak cask and finished in an Ex-Islay cask."
About the Label
"The Copper House Distillery sits within the Adnams brewery, located in Southwold. Their records of brewing date back as far as 1345, and they were the first brewery to be legally distilling spirits in the UK. The label artwork plays on the many ghost stories surrounding the brewery, with a modern twist. Have you ever been ghosted before? *Weep.*"
