This 2018 vintage Nc'Nean was matured in a pair of First Fill Hogshead casks for 5 years before bottling at 55%.

"This is Westie Sponge, a new (slightly more serious) side-series of Whisky Sponge that celebrates the single malts of the West Highlands and Islands.
"Whisky Sponge is from the west coast of Scotland and as such it’s a place that holds a very special place in his heart. He’s always wanted to do a series that celebrates and showcases the often characterful, full-bodied and evocative whiskies of these wildest and most beautiful parts of Scotland. And this is it.
"For Westie Sponge One, we’ve selected two casks of Nc’Nean single malt. These were distilled in 2018 from two different yeast recipes: Anchor and Fermentis, and Anchor, Fermentis and DistilaMax RM. They were matured in two 1st fill hogsheads, before being combined a few months ago and put back into the same two casks. Half of this mix – 340 bottles - has been bottled as Westie Sponge One with a slightly reduced bottling strength of 55%. The remainder has been re-racked into refill wood and will be bottled at some time in the future...
"This is a surprisingly mature and rather lusciously fruity young whisky that balances some nice richness from the casks, alongside a detailed and vivid fruit character from the distillate."

Nose: bright, peppery and fruity, with specific notes of orange peel, waxy lemon rind, heather flower and various beers and crystalised exotic fruits. Water adds to the fruitier and floral aspects and brings a wonderful freshness.
Palate: big, brightly fruity, spicy and full of yellow plums, lemon rind, honey and pressed wild flowers. Also hints of exotic fruit teas and wood spices. Water once again enhances the sweeter and fresher qualities.
Finish: good length, on honeys, flowers, mead, a touch of wax and more dried exotic fruit notes.

Nc'nean is one of the most fascinating distilleries going. Net zero carbon emission, entirely organic, socially aware, and now with legit 'of age' whisky. This core range single malt was matured in a mix of red wine, Oloroso sherry, and ex-American whiskey casks (we assume that means not ex-Bourbon, but don't quote us).
Natural colour, non-chill filtered, and bottled at 46% abv.

Nc'nean is a relatively new (2017) Scottish distillery in the Western Highlands. The 4th release from That Boutique-y Whisky Company is a 5 year old bottled from a single STR cask at 60.1%.

About the Label
"The farm distillery was designed by the late distilling consultant Jim Swan to produce a light, fruity and estery spirit. A character intensified by slow mashes, long fermentations, horizontal lyne arms, and shell and tube condensers, with a high, narrow spirit cut. Our 5 Year Old Nc’Nean is from a STR (shaved, toasted and re-charred) red wine cask, and bottled at natural cask strength We’ve gone for the classic ‘Whisky Galore’ for our label inspiration for this one. Founder Annabel Thomas is leading her whisky team, affectionately known as the ‘Quiet Rebels,’ up the rocks to their remote distillery on the Morvern Peninsula. That’s the Sound of Mull in the background. They’re carrying crates of whisky cunningly disguised as ‘Doug Treats’ (Doug is the distillery’s dog) and there’s the ‘mark of the Swan’ branded on the leading crate."

"This year’s Spring Edition of Equinox & Solstice is a single refill hogshead of 2011 Teaninich, bottled at 13 years of age and reduced to this series’ trademark easy drinking strength of 48.5%.
"This cask already displayed a higher than usual show of Teaninich’s more highland, waxy side, but in addition to that, it also has a subtle but distinct layer of peat running throughout. Whether that is from the distillate or the previous cask, we don’t know, but the result is really tasty and very unusual – also a perfect balance of freshness and power for Spring!"
