This rose from the Struma Valley in Bulgaria is made from a blend of Broad-Leaved Melnik and Melnik 55. Melnik 55 - aka Early Melnik - is a hybrid created in 1963 by crossing the indigenous Broad-leaved Melnik with French grapes Durif, Jurançon, Valdiguié and Cabernet Sauvignon. The result is a grape that ripens earlier than Broad-Leaved Melnik but maintains similar characteristics.
Mihovi Family Estate Winery resides in the Struma Valley region of Bulgaria, near the border with Macedonia to the west and Greece to the South. Mihovi is operated by father and son Stefan and Petar Mihov.
While not as well known in the Western world as France, Italy or Greece, Bulgaria has a wine-making history dating back over 4000 years to the time of the Thracians. That is slowly changing as the country fosters more ties with the European Union, allowing international trade to further develop and get the word out on how good Bulgarian wine can be.

Liquidity was established in 2008 when Ian MacDonald, a businessman and art collector, teamed up with some Calgary energy industry executives to buy an ailing Okanagan Falls vineyard left over from a failed winery project. It was a success, and a few years ago it was sold to the Iconic Wineries group, owned by Anthony von Mandl (of Mission Hill and White Claw fame). Grown specially for rosé, the pinot noir for this wine comes from their home vineyards in Okanagan Falls and Oliver. In 1469 A.D., in the heart of Sicily, the noble Aragonese family Abatellis built the baglio (a typical Sicilian court square building) where Montoni's wines are made even today. Since Roman times, durum wheat has been cultivated in the Sicilian hinterland. Within these massive expanses of yellow durum wheat, the green vineyards of Montoni have flourished for over 600 years.
For centuries, the wheat fields have contributed to a “natural isolation”of Montoni’s high-altitude vineyards. The “Island of Montoni” extends for approximately 80 hectares, with altitudes between 500 and 700 meters. The vines are situated on a hard mountain slope, all east facing, in soil that ranges from sandy to clay. The winds, tramontana and scirocco, and the exposure support Montoni's certified organic farming.
