Noël Bulliat and his son Loïc run this family estate that covers 27 ha in 8 different appelations in the heart of the Beaujolais region. It began in 1978 when Noël bought 4 ha of Beaujolais Villages straight after graduating from viticultural school. The grapes are hand-picked and fermented with the whole clusters intact. They undergo a cold maceration to preserve aromatic profile before being moved to cement tanks for semi-carbonic maceration, lasting 10 to 12 days using indigenous yeasts. They are certified organic and offer bright, expressive notes of red berries, minerality, subtle spice and lively acidity to tie it all together.

The wines of Gérard Raphet are a Burgundy lover’s Burgundy. While the wine’s colour in the glass is a delicate ruby, aromas and flavours surprise with their forceful intensity. This contrast often catches the uninitiated off guard, yet it is part of the attraction and seduction of these limited and highly sought-after wines. Raphet Burgundy is handmade from field to bottle, with a rhythm and method that hasn’t changed in four generations. Vines are on average very old, with many vines over 100 years. Harvest is done by hand, and grapes are fermented on indigenous yeasts in tank and then aged for some 18 months in mostly older French oak barrels. Wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Their Rose is 44 to 48% Pinot Noir, 13 to 18% Meunier, 25 to 29% of Chardonnay, and is created from a selection of grapes sourced from 50-70 crus. This wine screams strawberries, with other notes of ripe red berries, biscuit and pastry.

Chateau Cap de Faugeres encompasses 46 hectares of vines planted to 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, typical to the right bank. As a farmer, Luigi Einaudi displayed intelligence and far-sightedness. When he used rooted grafts on American rootstock to combat phylloxera, he brought modern viticulture to the Langhe. He decided in 1915 to create a cellar to produce and bottle wine, rather than just selling the grapes. He at once began to buy vineyards that enjoyed a particular position, exposure and soil quality in order to produce the best wines. Today, it is Matteo Sardagna Einaudi, Paola’s son, who is at the helm of the company, and they produce some of most exsquisite examples of Barolo, Barbaresco, and Dolcetto in Piedmont.
