A Kensington Wine Market exclusive. We have fallen in love with the wines from Trossos a small family winery in the Priorat region of Spain devoted to organic farming. Made from a blend of 60% Grenache, 15% Carignan,15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Syrah, this is a gorgeous and elegant Priorat. Deep crimson red in colour, the nose offers black fruit compote together with black spices and notes of licorice. Smooth and velvety in the mouth with tannin tension for structure. The classic Priorat minerality frames the lovely black and red fruits. It finishes with long and satisfying dark fruit notes, with the aromas of sweet spices reemerging on the finish. Best food bets are rich and hearty fare like braised wild game, earthy vegetarian stews, or strong cheese.

The dominant variety in the region is Verdejo, a grape that offers crisp citrusy white wines reminiscent of Sauvignon Blanc without the resounding grassiness. 2010 Vintage. A grower-producer in the heart of Chigny-les-Rose, Giles Dumangin has champagne coursing through his veins. Dating back to the 1650s, the Dumangins have always worked with the vines of Champagne, but it wasn't until 1890 when Hippolyte Dumangin created Champagne Dumangin in the 1er Cru vineyards of Chigny-les-Roses. Five generations later, Champagne Dumangin is producing an array of champagnes, from their classic, feminine style to their newer, high-end cuvees. Their Vintage Cuvee is a blend of Chardonnay (54%) and Pinot Noir (46%), and with 9 years en tirage (on the yeast lees), the wine shows beautiful and elegant complexity. Expect notes of brioche, grilled almonds, blossom and lemon drops, with a bright acidity that extends the finish. Pair with fresh seafood, or simply enjoy as an aperitif. 2010 was a challenging vintage for the region, but Dumangin did some aggressive sorting and managed to deliver a lovely vintage wine.

Giovanni Davaz owns fifteen precious hectares of vineyards in Tavernelle Val di Pesa where he grows very fine Sangiovese, muscular Cabernet Sauvignon, and dense, powerful Syrah. Generous use of small barrels in vinification barely tame the exuberant, broad fruit quality of his wines, and the firm, large-scaled tannic structure in them makes them suitable for extended aging. Ripe and rich fruit gives this wine lush notes of sweet cherries and leather. Very food friendly, especially with herb-roasted chicken. Organic and vegan friendly!
