Bottled at a pleasantly robust 54.8% ABV, this edition of Rock Island features a marriage of single malts from the Scottish Isles of Arran, Islay, Jura, and Orkney. Evan was somewhat disappointed at whisky from Mull not being included, but his mood improved thanks to the use of heavily charred casks for finishing.

Macduff Distillery was founded only around 60 years ago back in 1960 and resides near the mouth of the River Deveron near where it empties into the North Sea. That puts it in the Highlands, just north and east of Speyside. It's nearest distillery neighbours include Glenglassaugh Distillery which is about a 20-minute drive to the west along the A98 as well as Knockdhu Distillery which is about a 25-minute drive to the south and west if you start on the A98 and then connect to the A95.

Since then, a lot has changed, but it will never change what our whiskey does as it is – spring double barley from Moravia, malt from the Malt House in Bruntál with classic throb sprouts and heavily burned barrels from the European winter oak from Moravian cos. We fill into bottles until we taste it tastes, not sooner, not later. Now, alongside the classic single malt whisky, there is a waiting opportunity in whisky barrels smoky with three times the amount of peat, grain grain whiskey, or rye whiskies, which we believe will be a great continuation of the story.

About Pivot Spirits
Pivot Spirits was founded in 2018 and resides in Rolling Hills, Alberta — about a 30-minute drive south of Brooks. If you zoom in on Rolling Hills from a satellite image on Google Maps you will see where the name Pivot Spirits comes from: all the fields in the area have the tell-tail rounded and circular shape of pivot irrigation. The distillery is co-owned by Lars Hirsch and Rachelle Fiset. Lars is an irrigation farmer with fields just across the roads from the distillery and the distiller as well. Just about all the grain used at Pivot Spirits uses for making Whisky, Gin, and other spirits comes from his fields. The only exception to this is when Lars uses corn, which he gets from his neighbours. Pivot Spirits does not malt or roast any of the grains it uses — it comes directly from the field, is ground down, and made into a mash.
