It is back and exclusive to KWM in Calgary again, bottled at 58%. The Ileach Cask Strength is a mystery malt from Islay. In other words, the distillery of origin is a mystery but, look closely at the label, and you'll see a couple of clues: the distillery has its own bay, presumably passable on only the one side; it's water-front has a distinct appearance; and could that be the ruins of the Dunyvaig Castle on the far right? Lagging behind and not understanding our not-so-subtle hints on which distillery this could be? Fear not - this is what makes Mystery Malts so much fun.

Andrew, aka the Scotch Guy, is marking his 20th Anniversary in the whisky business this fall, and our friends at Kilchoman have offered us a lovely cask of whisky to mark the occasion. This 100% Islay Kilchoman was filled into a Bourbon Barrel on January 24, 2013, and was bottled on August 8, 2023, after 10 years at 55.5%. Only 243 total bottles!

This is the first single malt from the Isle of Raasay Distillery to find its way to Canada, release R-01. Produced from 100% Scottish concerto barley, peated to 48-52ppm and matured in a mix of First fill ex-Rye Whiskey, virgin Chinkapin oak, and first fill Bordeaux red wine. Bottled at 46.4%. The whisky is matured and bottled on the Isle of Raasay without chill filtering or added coloring.

“As part of our unique six-part maturation, we run peated and unpeated spirit at different times of the year and mature these two spirit types separately in three distinct varieties of oak casks – ex-Rye Whiskey, virgin Chinkapin oak, and ex-Bordeaux red wine.
Once we have selected casks ready for bottling, we vat the six recipe casks together (in varying proportions) to develop the complexity, depth and elegance we are looking to achieve. It is then bottled as our signature lightly peated Isle of Raasay Single Malt (coming out in May 2021).
This six cask maturation policy provides us with six different styles of whisky from our single distillery, and when vatted together in the correct proportions, gives the elegance, complexity and depth of a much older whisky.”

Tullibardine has three wood finishes, each of them starts with the Sovereign as a base and then uses a wine cask for finishing. For about 12 months, Tullibardine Sovereign has been finished off in Chateau Suduiraut Sauternes Casks, which are 225 litres in size. The resulting whisky is bottled at 43%.

Our first KWM exclusive single cask of Blair Athol is a 14 year old bottled for us by our friends at Berry Bros. & Rudd. The spirit was filled into a hogshead cask, #8939, in 2009, and has been bottled after 14 years at 59.1%. Only 156 total bottles!

This is the 6th Batch of Aberlour was bottled released by That Boutique-y Whisky Company in 2018. It was bottled at 9 years old and at 49.7%. 3080 of the company's standard 500ml bottles were made in total. Though you cannot tell by the colour of the whisky alone, this bottling of Aberlour sure looks like it could be a lot less sherried than the official releases we see from the distillery.... Interesting.
