Check out this label - a handsome fox terrier sporting a monocle! From Douglas Laing, Scallywag is blend of Speyside whiskies, including Macallan, Glenrothes and Mortlach. There's some bourbon cask whisky in the blend, but most come from Spanish sherry butts, which give Scallywag a pleasant sweetness.

"Douglas Laing's Scallywag is a Small Batch bottling created using only the finest Speyside Malts including - amongst others - Mortlach, Macallan and Glenrothes. Bottled at 46% alcohol strength and non-chill-filtered, this Small Batch bottling has a distinct rich, dark colour - extracted from the many fine Spanish Sherry Butts used during maturation. In fact, we use 40% first-fill Sherry butts in the mix, and the result is a truly charming Malt with a richly spiced character, fused with vanilla (from the bourbon casks used), sweet stewed fruit, Christmas pudding, dark chocolate, zesty orange and sweet tobacco. First introduced in 2016, The Epicurean is a Blended Malt Scotch Whisky that focuses on the Lowlands both style-wise and for the component malts used. The Epicurean is a reference to the character on the bottle itself, which looks like some sort of amalgamated caricature of Rich Uncle Pennybags from the Monopoly board game, Leonardo DiCaprio's character from The Great Gatsby, and Fred Laing Jr and his carefully managed mustache itself.

Who Was The Sändebud?
Colin Campbell (1 November 1686 – 9 May 1757) In 1720, facing ruinous debt, Campbell fled Edinburgh for Ostend, where he made a name for himself as a merchant. Eyeing an opportunity in Sweden, in 1731 Campbell teamed up with two well-connected merchants, Niclas Sahlgren and Henric König, to form the Swedish East India Company, a powerful trading business that brought new wealth to Sweden. As the Company’s main driving force, Campbell oversaw many of the highly lucrative trade missions to the Far East. Campbell himself was Sweden’s first Ambassador to China. As Gothenburg grew into a major maritime centre, so too did Campbell’s influence and wealth. He was knighted, naturalised and became a Swedish noble. An honourable man, he kept his word and paid back the substantial debts he’d accrued as a younger man back in Scotland. Campbell died in 1757, and was interred in Gothenburg Cathedral. Campbell documented his first voyage but destroyed the manuscript to stop it being seized when the Dutch boarded his ship. He later reconstructed it from memory and it was published in 1996 (A passage to China: Colin Campbell’s diary of the first Swedish East India Company expedition to Canton, 1732-33).
