"Built by Thomas MacKenzie in 1897 – the year of Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee – Imperial Distillery was constructed in the heart of Speyside on a grand scale, the maltings capped by a cast iron crown. Mothballed in 1899, it reopened in 1919, fell silent for another 30 years then opened again, supplying spirit for blended whisky, only to close for the last time in 1998. In 2013, the buildings were demolished and Dalmunach Distillery now stands on the site. Single malt whiskies featuring the Imperial Distillery name are the epitome of rare. Their reputation continues to grow and this forgotten masterpiece was matured in a Gordon & MacPhail cask for more than three decades."

Batch 3 of the Two Rivers Single Malt Whisky has arrived, with a new bottle style!
The whisky made entirely using Two Row Barley that was grown and malted in Alberta. After distilling, it was matured in a freshly Recharred ex-Pinot Noir cask for two years. This was followed with a one month transfer into an ex-Bourbon Cask from Woodford Reserve before heading back to its original cask for the remainder of the year. The resulting 3 year old Single Malt Whisky is bottled at 40% ABV.
Two Rivers Distillery is located in Calgary's Barley Belt. It is about a 10-minute walk from Annex Ale Project.

"Opened as the fourth of Dufftown’s famed seven stills in the heart of Speyside in 1894, Convalmore’s waxy, fruity spirit has very rarely been seen as a single malt whisky. Dedicated almost entirely to blended whiskies, production was interrupted in 1909 by a fire. The distillery expanded in 1964 but was mothballed in 1985. The original buildings are still on the site but the production equipment has been removed. This 39 year old single malt, matured in a bespoke Gordon & MacPhail cask, is a forgotten masterpiece; a lost work of art that revives the spirit of a bygone era."

"Loch Ardnahoe's depth is not precisely known, though it's reputed to be the deepest loch on Islay. While it's said to be deep, with risks associated with exploration, a precise measurement hasn't been established. The water within is characterized by its softness, filtering through peat and rock."

KWM looked at buying this cask, but we just couldn't make it work for us... I am really happy that Authentic brought it in though as a Canadian exclusive release! Distilled in 2000, back when Scapa had some very long fermentations, the whisky matured 24 years in a Refill Sherry Hogshead Cask (#1105) before bottling at 56.9%.

The 23 casks selected by Kilchoman Founder, Anthony Wills, are a combination of 20 fresh and 3 refill casks from two different distillation years. The sherry-soaked oak adds layers of rich dark fruit character which balance beautifully with classic Kilchoman peat smoke and citrus flavours."
