Lindores Abbey Commemorative Single Malt

The first release from the new Lowland Lindores Abbey Distillery was matured in ex-Bourbon, Sherry, & Wine Casks before bottling at 46%. Though just 3-4 years of age, the whisky shows a lot of promise.
This first release is a nod to the first-ever reference of whisky making, which took place at Lindores Abbey, now in ruins, in 1494. A letter to Friar John Cor was instructed by King James IV to make "auqa vitae, VIII bolls of malt." The ruins sit on lands owned by Drew and Helen McKenzie Smith. In 2017 they opened the Lindores Abbey Distillery with the intent of making it an estate distillery. Beginning in 2020, all of the barley used by the distillery was sourced from the surrounding fields.

Much like Ardbeg before them, Glen Garioch is telling the tale of their rebirth (Renaissance, if you will) through a four part series that showcases the distillery's coming of age after it found life again as part of Beam Suntory's portfolio back in 1997.
This 18-year-old - the culmination of the 'story' that began with 15, 16, and 17-year-old expressions - was built upon a marriage of ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry casks and is meant to exemplify the distillery's new(ish) house style. All we can say is...well done, folks.

This is the third release in Laphroaig's Ian Hunter Series, a work-in-progress 15 bottle collection meant to tell the tale of Laphroaig's history under the careful stewardship of Hunter Ian, the last of the Johnston line to run the distillery. Each bottle in the series is framed inside a book. This third edition is titled Book 3: Source Protector, presumedly having to do with that infamous period in Laphroaig's history when they were bogged down (pun fully intended) in the 'water wars' with neighboring Lagavulin.
33-year-old Laphroaig, distilled in 1987, and matured entirely in ex-Bourbon. Trust us, there is simply no better better way to showcase the majesty of Laphroaig than ex-Bourbon maturation and a high age statement. Apex Islay single malt.

To create 15 Year Old Viking Heart, Gordon Motion, our Master Whisky Maker, selected predominantly sherry seasoned European oak casks to deliver warm, spicy notes and sherry seasoned American oak casks to provide a balance of sweet vanilla. Expertly adding just a few refill casks to soften and smooth the flavours, Gordon chose to bottle at 44% ABV to allow the whisky’s vibrant fruitiness and distinctive heathery peat smoke to shine through.
About the Bottle
Why a ceramic decanter? Rewind a century or two and our whisky would have been stored in earthenware vessels. The lead-free porcelain decanter is 100% food safe, glazed inside and out, and embossed with the lion and serpent design that appears on many of our glass bottles. Look closely at the back of the bottle and you’ll find the heart motif that inspired this whisky’s name.
