The distilleries that make up that coveted sextet are largely household names that most whisky enthusiasts have tasted, or at least heard of: Oban, Talisker, Dalwhinnie, Lagavulin, Cragganmore, and Glenkinchie. And while many folks are familiar with the flagship malts from those iconic distilleries, most haven't tackled the Distillers Edition range, where those classic single malts get treated to a bit of bonus time in finishing casks. This Dalwhinnie DE, for example, is essentially the classic 15-year-old, reracked into ex-Oloroso sherry casks for a period, and bottled each year in limited editions. Expect a richer experience than you'd find in the Classic Malts. A very welcome variation on a theme.
