More than 45 years ago, back in 1977 was the first year that Moss Wood produced a Semillon for commercial use. It was made with no barrel treatment and upon the first year of production was a major head turner. To this day, Moss Wood sticks to only stainless still fermentation for their Semillon.

This iconic blend traces its origins back to 1870 when it was called Old Special Highland Whisky, renamed Johnny Walker Black Label in 1909. The second from entry level expression can be sipped neat of mixed. While the Black Label is comprised of between 35 and 40 individual components, there are five distilleries that are considered its main building blocks. These cornerstones are Talisker, Caol Ila, Cragganmore and Glenkinchie for the malt portion and Cameronbridge for the grain whisky.

The Tinta del pais (Tempranillo) grapes are harvested from the Burgos and Valladolid vineyards which contain 25+ year old vines. Torlesse takes its name from an early Canterbury resident, surveyor and farmer, Englishman Charles Torlesse. He gave his name to the Torlesse mountain range, which part circles the Canterbury Plains and was at one time the largest land owner and farmer in North Canterbury, and founder of the nearby town of Rangiora. Interestingly, the name Torlesse is given to the underlying bedrock from which most New Zealand soils are derived.
