"Built in 1817, Teaninich is a Highland single malt distillery. It’s quite unique-y really, instead of a mash tun, it uses a filter press to extract the sweet sugars from the malt. There is much mystery surrounding the distillery, so we did as all Boutique-y’s do and went to town on the label - see below.
The Label
Based on a true love story from many years ago about Captain Hugh Munro (founder of this distillery). He was shot in the head behind his eyes but, he survived! Unsurprisingly, he lost his eyesight as a result. His sweetheart was forbidden from marrying him due to his condition, so she married someone else. Despite their differing paths, she continued to love him and as her dying wish, visited the church to see him one last time."

Carm is a winery that is still entirely owned by the same family - Roboredo Madeira - that launched the house back in the mid-17th century. The agricultural operation has always been focused in the region where the Douro River begins its course exclusively in Portuguese territory. This is also where the oldest demarcated wine region begins – the Demarcated Douro and Port Wine Region. The grapes for this wine come from an old vineyard in Quinta da Urze, more than 50 years old and at 650m altitude. The Rottensteiner family is one of the oldest wine-growing families in South Tyrol/Alto Adige region. Today, Toni and Hannes (father and son), jointly conduct the affairs of the winery, a family affair to be sure. The flavours are classic, showing notes of blackcurrants, chocolate, dried figs and toasted almonds. It has plenty of life left, but it is hard to resist just now. Try it with dark chocolate desserts or ripe blue cheese such as Roquefort.
