It's hard to think of another distillery that has done as much of an 'about face' as Loch Lomond. They're racking up awards left, right, and center , and deservedly so. The quality of spirit coming off the stills at Loch Lomond lately has been rather astonishing. Evan has been singing the praises of this distillery for or a couple years now, so I guess it's about time the rest of us catch up.
I was lucky enough to visit the distillery last year, with a wee cohort of roustabouts and raggamuffins, hoping to secure our next barrel for the shop. We spent a brilliant slice of time in the warehouse, sipping through half a dozen single casks (and a couple other goodies, as is wont to happen), and no lie... five out of the six casks we tried were worth bottling. They were all of the Inchmurrin profile - Loch Lomond's fruitier style - and all were delicious. Casks 4701 and 4705 ultimately won out, though, and the good folks at Loch Lomond were kind enough to acquiesce to our timid request to double down and take two instead of just one. One for the store - cask 4705 - and one for my club, the sinDicate - cask 4701. Cask 4705 is already nearly sold out and there are a mere handful of bottles from cask 4701 that are available.
I'm pretty proud to have our logo on this one. It's a cracker. If you're looking for a beautifully syrupy fruit bomb, this is your dram.
It's also worth noting how exceedingly rare it is in this day and age to find such brilliantly vibrant whisky at this sort of price point. Guess it's time to start flirting with our Loch Lomond team and crossing our fingers for the next cask... - Curt
