700ml mlAndrew's Tasting Note
Nose: sherried, nutty, and malty with firm spice; the darker notes are built upon a base layer of creamy vanilla custard; dark bakers chocolate, Peanut Buster Parfait, and candied nuts; herbal with dried fruits and a touch of leather.
Palate: herbal, sherried, and malty with loads of chocolate and nuts; a bit of Amaro and Fernet Branca to kick things off; once more heavy on the chocolate tones: more dark chocolate and DQ PBF with some Eatmore to top things off; firm chewy malt leads into some bright citrus and berry fruits; firm leather, spices, and juicy tobacco.
Finish: warming, fruity, and spicy with rich sherry notes and tons of chocolate.
Comment: a well-constructed young malt, with lots of layers; it is a signpost for what lies ahead with the brand; while this is Lochlea's first 5-year-old, lovely, and extremely limited, it is rather dear!
Producer Tasting Note
"Opening with brown sugar and baked pineapple, the rich cake-like notes of the nose give way to citrus zest and candied pear crumble on the palate. Tangy orange peel slowly melts into sumptuous caramel on the finish, accompanied by hints of black pepper, rose petals and leather."
