Painted Rock Chardonnay

Painted Rock began with John and Trish Skinner’s belief that the Okanagan Valley had enormous, largely unrealized, potential. While the area was long known for producing some of the world’s finest fruit, it was the wines produced from the 1980s “Vinifera Program” (where vineyards were paid to remove high-producing, inferior hybrids and plant vinifera) that convinced the Skinners that the Okanagan would one day be an internationally recognized wine region. John knew that if they wanted to be involved, and make an impact, they had to move quickly. The goal was simple: find the best property and apply the most aggressive mandate for quality. Their extensive search took nearly three years and ended when they found “The Black Hawk”, a spectacular 56-acre bench on Skaha Lake in Penticton. In 2004 they purchased what was once “the largest apricot orchard in the British Commonwealth”. The orchard had been felled in the 1980s and had lain fallow since. Detailed analysis of the property occurred for the next year while the site was prepared and the property was planted in 2005. Envisioned as a family-run estate winery, the assumption was that this could be some of the finest “terroir” in the world and it was their job to deliver on its promise. From expertise to equipment to mandate the commitment was and remains uncompromising. According to John Skinner, “If Painted Rock is going to compete with the best in the world we must have confidence in our terroir and allow it to express its uniqueness. That's why we are 100% Estate."

Matanzas Creek Sauvignon Blanc

Matanzas Creek is located in the remote, but breathtakingly beautiful Bennett Valley region of Sonoma County. Since its launch in 1977, the winery has built its reputation on Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot – two varieties that thrive in Sonoma’s temperate climate. After years of searching, a unique opportunity appeared in 2013 to acquire the first three contrade on the northern slopes of Etna. A continually evolving project that began with the reconstruction of the traditional dry stone walls of the terraces of Guardiola – the contrada (district) whose stunning beauty nurtures the underlying motivation and inspiration and whose name is given to the entire project: Alta Mora. The sole grape is Nerello Mascalese from two hectares of 150-year free-standing vines at an altitude of 800/1000 meters above sea level in the Guardiola contrada. The altitude and terroir allow the Nerello Mascalese to ripen more slowly, which promotes rich tannins and distinctive aromas in the grape. The wine drinks like fine Burgundy with great structure and elegance. Plush red fruits, spice, fine tannins; briallant wine.
Pra Amarone Valpolicella

Graziano Prà had a calling to become a vine grower, and it is a road he followed with commitment and honesty: from the family vineyards, managed by his grandfather and father, to his training as an oenologist. The true change came in the Eighties, when the establishment of the company f.lli Prà began to take place. The company was initially run by Graziano and his brother, who worked in the vineyard. In 2007, however, Graziano became the sole owner, under his direction the company grew and the territories – Monte Grande (the company cru), Monte Bisson in Soave, and Morandina in Valpolicella – became more important. Today they are in the top tier of wines from the Veneto, second (or third) only to Quintarelli and Dal Forno.
Rockford Grenache Mataro 2019

Rockford Wines feature high-quality traditional wines made from some of the best old Barossa vineyards. The winery and cellar door sales are part of a paved courtyard surrounded by stone buildings dating back to the early settlement of Krondorf. Founder and winemaker Robert O'Callaghan is a legend among Aussie winemakers and his wines have had a profound influence on winemaking philosophy and wine style in the Barossa. In addition to the small home vineyard, Rockford works in partnership with several independent wine growers around the Barossa, with vineyards in Kalimna, Ebenezer, Moppa Springs, the Eden Valley and central Barossa. This gives Rockford a wide variety of soil types, mesoclimates and altitudes for its grapes. Many of the vines are planted on their own rootstocks and range between 60–100 years old, giving intense, concentrated grapes that translate into the wines. Winemaking is largely done using traditional methods such as basket presses, open-topped concrete fermenters and an 1880s Bagshaw (grape) crusher that was found on site when O'Callaghan purchased the property in the 1970s.
