Is it a coincidence we bottled two Gordon & MacPhail Glentauchers casks in a year? Yes, but it shouldn't be all that surprising... seeing as they are bottling some of the best whisky from the distillery. This 2000 vintage was matured 23 years in a First Fill Sherry Hogshead. We were blown away by this old-school dumpy, sherried single malt... its' a very cool dram!
Glenfiddich 18 Year Old
$189.99
From one of the powerhouse distilleries and brands of Single Malt Scotch. Bottled at 40%.
Lending its name to the largest selling single malt in the world, Glenfiddich is said to have paved the way after WWII by bucking the trend and not supplying to blenders owned by larger conglomerates. Vision and persistence paid off, and as luck would have it, its style is very easily drinkable and appeals to a wide range. Traditionally light, smooth, with a hint of fruitiness.
Producer Description
"We use fine Spanish Oloroso wood and American oak to mature this rich, intriguingly fruity and robust oak expression, but there are many more reasons why this expression is special.
Every batch is individually numbered and carefully watched over. Each has extraordinary consistency and character from an intense marrying period, and a warming, distinguished finish.
A truly exceptional single malt, the result not just of eighteen years of care and attention, but of whisky-making craft and knowledge passed down through the generations."

Chateau Haut Bailly II
$116.99
Haut-Bailly’s reputation as one of the great wines of Bordeaux dates from the 19th century, and the word “outstanding” most often associated with the château reflects its superb quality. The late Robert G. Wilmers purchased the chateau in 1998, and it is now owned by his son Chris. He and the current manager, Véronique Sanders, have very demanding standards that entail using the best of traditional and modern methods, with full respect for the environment. A quarter of the vines at Haut-Bailly are a hundred years old, and the estate has a unique terroir that accounts for wines of amazing regularity. These great wines have an inimitable style, finesse, and elegance, whatever the vintage. This is the second wine of the chateau, selling for less than half the price of the flagship bottling but coming very close in style and structure.

Translation from the Producer's Website
"Hiroshima Ginjo Sake was born from the soft water brewing method established by Miura Senzaburo and the rice polishing technology of Satake (Higashihiroshima City), which developed Japan's first powered rice polishing machine. After more than 120 years, Ginjo Sake is opening the door to a new stage. The focus of innovation is on the shape of the rice. From the traditional method of polishing rice into a spherical shape, to a thin, flat polishing (Shingin). The latest rice polishing machine has achieved the same protein reduction rate with 60% polishing as the traditional 40% polishing. Each bottle of directly drawn raw sake is carefully bottle-pasteurized and stored in bottles, preserving the fresh flavor of freshly pressed sake."

$105.99
The second release of Torabhaig to come to Canada (3rd if you count both versions of the Allt Gleann) is "Cnoc Na Moine", which is Scots Gaelic for 'hill of peat'. Bottled at 46%, the whisky was matured in a mix of Bourbon, Oloroso, and PX casks. The spirit had a phenol lever of 78.4ppm, the bottled whisky 19.7ppm.
Producer Description
"Introducing the highly awaited third chapter in the Torabhaig Legacy Series, Cnoc Na Moine. A testament to our distillery’s continuous evolution and our unyielding commitment to craftsmanship, this expression ventures boldly into new territories with its debut use of sherry casks, elevating the complexity and richness of our peated single malt.
"Cnoc Na Moine, translating to ‘hill of peat’ from Gaelic, embodies the essence of its namesake with a composition that mirrors the dramatic and untamed beauty of Skye. Matured in a distinctive combination of Bourbon American Oak, Oloroso, and Pedro Ximenez casks, this release marries the robust peatiness Torabhaig is renowned for with rich sherry notes, culminating in a darker, more profound hue."
