Finally, full-size portions of Two Stacks have hit our shelves. The First Cut is a rather complicated five-part blend that pulls together a few styles, grains, and cask types. In fact, this may be one of the most interesting bits of Irish alchemy we've ever seen. The good people at Two Stacks say that this one is made from Virgin Oak Grain, Ex-Bourbon Grain, Ex-Oloroso Pot Still, Ex-Bourbon Double Distilled Malt and Ex-Bourbon Peated Malt. 43% and non chill-filtered.
Interesting side notes: This is one of the first whiskies we have received that we know was sourced from The Great Northern Distillery in Louth, Ireland. The distillery was founded by John Teeling in 2015. John Teeling previously owned and operated the Kilbeggan Whisky Company (Cooley and Kilbeggan Distilleries) until selling the company to Beam Global (Now Beam Suntory) in late 2011. John's sons Jack and Stephen Teeling founded the Teeling Whisky Company in 2012 and opened a distillery with the same name in Dublin.

Hinch is one of the new kids on the block. The distillery's first spirit ran from the stills in 2020, so we know that this 12-year-old was sourced juice. Possibly (probably?) from Cooley. Triple distilled. 11 years ex-Bourbon, 12 months finish in ex-Masi Amarone casks.

Triple-distilled peated Irish whiskey. This is a bottle of WTF if we've ever seen one. And apparently the first peated triple-distilled Irish malt in over a century. Bill Phil - named for W.D. O'Connell's great grandfather William Philip O'Connell - was matured in first fill ex-Bourbon barrels, ranging in age from 3-5 years. This is batch 04, bottled in Autumn 2021.

"Irish legend tells the story of The Three Collas. Caireall Colla Uais, Muiredach Colla Fo Chrí and Aed Colla Menn, three brothers who conquered and ruled over most of Ireland, with Colla Uais becoming Ard Rí: The High King of Ireland in the 4th century. Irish history tells us there was a steadfast rule against the slaying of a sitting High King. If a person were to violate that rule, none of their descendants would ever accede to the Irish throne. Japanese Mizunara Casks: So hot right now! They can magically be used to finish any whisky and make it more expensive in the process. This single malt whiskey was initially matured in ex-Bourbon casks before a period of finishing in Mizunara oak. The result is at least 7 years old and bottled at 46%.
Glendalough Distillery was founded by five friends in 2011. It was the first craft distillery to come online in Ireland in the modern era, and heralded the upcoming boom of distillery and brand growth Irish Whiskey would soon undergo. Glendalough Distillery resides in a valley within County Wicklow, about an hour's drive south of Dublin. It has been owned by Mark Anthony Brands since 2019.

The volcanic northern-most island of Japan, Hokkaido is where we found Mizunara, the most sought-after oak in the whiskey world which we use to age our 7yo Irish Single Malt.
The trunks of these uniquely beautiful trees are prone to growing twisted and are notoriously difficult to cooper due to its porousness. However, therein lies its saving grace, whiskey can seep deeper into the wood extracting more flavour from this unique cask."
