According to Indian Mythology, when Gods and the Rakshas (the demons) churned the oceans using mountain Menu as churner a golden pot sprang out containing the Elixir of Life or "Amrut". The whisky is made using Indian barley grown at the foot of the Himalayas, and is mashed with water from those same mountains. Distilled in the city of Bangalore it is matured their in tropical conditions. 50% of the whisky--the angels share--is generally lost before bottling.

They use a mix of Scottish and Indian barley, the later sourced from farmland in the north of India which borders the Hymalayas.The name "Amrut" comes from Indian mythology and means "Nectar of Life" in Sanskrit. Amrut whiskies are bottled young because in the harsh Indian climate they mature quickly loosing between 10 and 15% volume per year.

A dry handcrafted gin using the freshest botanicals from the pristine Nilgiris (Blue) mountains in the western ghats of India at 7000 ft above sea level. The maceration and distillation is skillfully performed in copper pot stills with juniper berries, coriander, lemongrass, angelica, orris root, cinnamon, mace, nutmeg, and tea.
Amrut Kurinji Single Malt

Kurinji was a neat little surprise when we were tasting our way through the Victoria Whisky Festival. Our good friend Ashok pulled this out and poured a dram, with a big smile on his face. It was easy to smile along. This is a ridiculously pretty little sipper. Easy going and very charming. The label says Batch 1, so hopefully we see more editions in the future.
