Amrut distillery is located in Bangalore India. They use a mix of Scottish and Indian barley, the later sourced from farmland in the north of India which borders the Hymalayas.The name "Amrut" comes from Indian mythology and means "Nectar of Life" in Sanskrit. Amrut whiskies are bottled young because in the harsh Indian climate they mature quickly loosing between 10 and 15% volume per year.

Producer Tasting Note
Nose: Unusually dry peat; not dissimilar to peat reek absorbed by an old leather armchair; a hint of citrus, too.
Palate: Despite the nose, the immediate sensation is one of being caressed by molassed sugar and then a ratching up of the peat notes. As they get more forceful, so the experience becomes that little bit drier and spicier, though not without the molasses refusing to give way.
Finish: You can tell the quality of the distillate and the barrels it has been matured in by the crystalline depth to the finish. Everything is clear on the palate and the butterscotch vanillas wrap the phenols for a comfortable and clean finale.

The Amrut Bagheera is a limited edition Amrut single malt, made from predominantly unpeated (99%) malt, which has been finished in sherry casks. The whisky has been bottled at 46%. The name "Bagheera" means black panther in Hindi. The gift pack includes two glasses.

According to Indian Mythology, when Gods and the Rakshas (the demons) churned the oceans using mountain Menu as churner a golden pot sprang out containing the Elixir of Life or "Amrut". The whisky is made using Indian barley grown at the foot of the Himalayas, and is mashed with water from those same mountains. Distilled in the city of Bangalore it is matured their in tropical conditions. 50% of the whisky--the angels share--is generally lost before bottling.
