Spain's Falset Valley may well be the greatest unknown wine region in the world and this Aloja Negre, made by the brother team of Tony and Miguel Coca is among the cream of the Falset crop. A decadent wine, seamless, rich, reminiscent of a handful of Bing cherries, blackberry liqueur, sugar plums, sage, cocoa, and cafe au lait. The blend of Grenache, Carignan, Cab, with a touch of Syrah is a bit eccentric, but it works!

Red wine that is representative of DO Montsant. Made from Grenache and Carignan sourced from vineyards of various soil types. Grenache brings fruit and volume, while Carignan offers colour and structure. A small percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon used in the blend for fruit and structure. Aloja Negre is a fresh, mineral, spicy wine that is approachable and easy to drink on its own or as an accompaniment to varied cuisines.

Montsant (where the Coca i Fito brothers winery is situated), is a remarkably beautiful region with steep mountains that rise more than 3,300 feet above sea level. The climate is harsh: hot summers and bitter winters.The vines are planted directly on the steep hillsides, on what are called "costers" or terraces. This red wine from DO Montsant is crafted from carefully selected grapes of old vines, primarily grown on clay-limestone soils. The Jaspi Blanc is made of 70% White Grenache (40 to 70-year-old vines) 30% Macabeu (40 to 70-year-old vines) represents great value! There's a touch of ageing “sur lies” (yeasts) which adds flavour and creaminess. White floral aromas meet white fruit and hints of pepper and herbs on the palate.

Famous for producing complex, floral wines made from Mencía, Ribeira Sacra is probably Galicia’s second-best-known wine region. Tolo do Xisto is a new project from the team at one of our favourite Spanish wineries, Coca i Fitó, with the Galician winemaker Andrea Obenza. Ribeira Sacra. The name Tolo do Xisto means "mad about slate". The winemaking process strives to transmit the mineral essence of the area through the different soils along the Sil River banks. A mineral, almost salty wine, is achieved which is aromatic, with good acidity. Penetrating smooth tannins, acidic red fruit, balsamic notes, and spices, but above all, it is very delicate with a long finish. This wine is light enough to enjoy with grilled fish like salmon or tuna. terrific with white meats it is also one you'll enjoy on its own when you don't want something too heavy.

Carmen was founded in Chile in 1958 by one Christian Lanz, who named the winery after his beloved wife. Flash forward 150 years, and the winery is still making top-notch wines, such as this rather unusual offering made from Carignan grapes. Bold and intense, it will pair beautifully with beef.
