Carmen was founded in Chile in 1958 by one Christian Lanz, who named the winery after his beloved wife. Flash forward 150 years, and the winery is still making top-notch wines, such as this rather unusual offering made from Carignan grapes. Bold and intense, it will pair beautifully with beef.

Meerendal Wine Estate dates back to 1702 and is home to some of the oldest plantings of Pinotage in the world, with some vines dating back to 1955. Pinotage is a genetic cross of Cinsault and Pinot Noir that has found a home in South Africa. The Meerendal Pinotage exhibits notes of juicy blackberries, dark cherries, cassis and dusty leather with a palate full of soft tannins, and a fruity and earthy finish.

"Meerendal Pinotage has an intense plum and chocolate nose, with cherry tobacco and cedar wood. The tannins are soft and well-balanced. It has a full palate with an exceptionally long aftertaste. Excellent with venison, guinea fowl and anything South African."

This organic white blend of Garnatxa Blanca (White Grenache) and Montonega is produced by Mascorrubi from their estate vineyards. It spends three months in oak before being bottled. Expect notes of fresh apples and peaches, light honey and a dash of oak on this silky but dry white.
