Producer Description
In 2008, Chichibu Distillery was opened by founder, Ichiro Akuto, and it was the first new distillery to open in Japan in 3 decades. Ichiro s grandfather owned the famed Hanyu Distillery, which closed in 2000. Ichiro then took possession of all the whisky stocks left behind in the Hanyu distillery and used them in the blending production of the world famous Ichiro s Malt Card Series. Chichibu whiskies are much in demand globally due to limited production and award winning quality. Ichiro Akuto is revered globally as a master craft distiller, producing some of Japan s best whiskies today. Composed of Japanese single malts, the undisclosed malts are most likely Chichibu and Hanyu distilleries single malts of various ages. After the blending of the two distilleries single malts, they are aged in Japan's famous and highly regarded Japanese Mizunara oak. This oak ageing in evident in the flavour and aroma profiles of this whisky."
