Compass Box Orchard House
$88.99
This whisky was featured on Day 6 of our 2024 KWM Whisky Calendar. You can read Evan's blog post on it here.
This is a game-changing whisky from Compass Box, built not from acquired aged components, but rather new make spirit acquired and filled into Compass Box own casks. Orchard House is composed of primarily Linkwood (39%), Clynelish (29%), Benrinnes (20%) and Caol Ila (2%), all from First Fill ex-Boubon Barrels, along with Highland Blended Malt (2%) from custom French oak casks and a secret Speyside single malt (8%) from Revatted Oloroso Sherry-Seasoned Butts. Hmmm, a "Distillery near the town of Aberlour" sounds a lot like Benfarclas... 46%.
Producer Description
"What is more universally delicious than ripe fruit? Even the greatest chefs have been known to serve a simple dish of strawberries or a single, perfect peach as a dessert.
"Orchard House gathers together some of the fruitiest malts Scotland has to offer, including whiskies from the Linkwood and Clynelish distilleries; what’s more, we have sourced many of these whiskies as new spirit and laid them down in our own oak casks. This, our monument to fresh fruitiness in Scotch whisky, has been many years in the making."
Dumangin Whisky Benrinnes 2008
$159.99
Gilles Dumangin doesn't make things easy on himself when he wraps his whiskies in wine. He has a habit of stacking the deck against himself by picking distilleries that boast some of the most challenging profiles in all of Scotch Whisky: Benrinnes, Ardmore, Fettercairn, Craigellachie. These aren't exactly the most mild-mannered of malts. It's a testament to the man's craft. I love the whole 'if you're going to swing, swing for the fences' mentality.

About The Whisky Trail
"The Whisky Trail is a collection of young and old casks, taking drinkers off the beaten path of whisky. Only whiskies that demonstrate the most exceptional characteristics are hand-selected to be bottled as part of the Whisky Trail range, and with each cask as unique as a fingerprint, no two expressions will ever be the same. To ensure each whisky maintains its full flavour and cask character, we never chill-filter or add colour."

Wormtub 10 Year Single Malt 56.9%
$76.99
This Speyside Single Malt Scotch was re-racked into first-fill ex-Sherry casks. It was bottled at 10 years old and 56.9% ABV.
What is this? I high strength, 10-year-old single malt that is also heavily sherry influenced AND at a reasonable price? Has the world gone mad?!? Not quite, but the crafty crew at That Boutique-y Whisky Company might have. TBWC cannot say which Speyside distillery this whisky was sourced from, but they do use worm tubs. Hmm... that narrows down the possibilities a bit. Craigellachie or Mortlach are likely the two most famous Speyside distilleries to utilize worm tubs, but they are not alone. Glen Elgin, Cragganmore, Balmenach, Benrinnes, and Speyburn do as well. There might be a few others too.
