Champagne Piollot, based in the Cote des Bars, is produced by husband and wife Roland Piollot and Dominique Moreau (whose exceptional wines are sold as Marie Courtin, a KWM exclusive), from vines owned by Roland’s family in the Aube. Roland is the 5th generation, with the estate being founded 19th Century. It was then extended by Roland’s father, Robert. Robert’s legacy was planting the ‘Val Colas Robin’ parcel (in 1955), which produced a 100% Pinot Blanc Cuvée ‘Colas Robin’. This was incredibly rare at the time as many of Robert’s neighbours were grubbing up Pinot Blanc vines to be replanted with the more popular Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. However, it wasn’t until 1986 when Roland decided to bottle under his own family name. Farming has been organic since 2009, with a more recent move to work biodynamically. The house style is very much one of precision, and elegance.

Robert Piollot (1930 - 2003) founded the house in the 19th century. Two generations later the family expanded their father's work by increasing the vineyard holdings of the domain. It is thanks to him that they can now produce a 100% pinot blanc Champagne called "colas Robin". In 1955, the Val Colas Robinl site was cleared and planted by his hand, row by row. He also established the Piollot Selection Massale that we know today in the region. He dedicated his life to selecting his best plants and then grafting. In 2009, they began converting to organic viticulture, with a total certification in 2014. They recently received their Demeter certification (biodynamics).

Francois Petit was born and raised in Avize and spent time at the iconic house of Jacques Selosse. He has now taken the reins from his father and is giving us another name to focus on in the village of Avize. Francois and his wife Justine took over for Francois’ father starting in 2015. Right away, they started to farm differently. The focus was to ensure they had a healthy and sustainable vineyard. The Champagne La Rogerie Héroïne is made from 100% Chardonnay harvested from vines in the Grand Cru village of Avize. Made in small quantities (only 7000 bottles!), this wine was aged an impressive 84+ months on the lees.

Founded in the village of Cumières in 1872 by Lucien Leclerc, the winery moved, in 1955, to the premises it still occupies today in Chemin de la Chaude Ruelle in Epernay. It was also at this time, thanks to the dynamism of Bertrand Leclerc, the great grandson of the founder, and of his wife Jacqueline Briant, that the estate-based business changed its status to that of a Maison de Negoce or trading house. In 2012 Leclerc Briant was saved from oblivion when it was acquired by Mark Nunelly and Denise Dupré, an American couple who are great enthusiasts of the French "art de vivre" and who fell in love with the nonconformist character of the House.
