Words alone can't express how happy we are that this whisky hasn't been shuffled through half a dozen or so cask types before bottling, as is usually the way with Jura (and a few other brands under the family's umbrella). Ex-Bourbon maturation and more than two decades of slumber tell us that this saline little malt from the Isle of Jura's only distillery should be a real cracker. We also appreciate the 46.7% bottling strength.

An 18 year old "mystery Speyside" single malt from The Lismore. This is not a distillery, but a company bottling single malt from an undisclosed distillery. The company itself just happens to be owned by that family that also owns Glenfarclas Distillery... Bottled at 43% after 18 years.

We're creeping up on the bicentenary of the Fettercairn distillery. 2024 will mark the 200 year anniversary of Alexander Ramsay founding this Eastern Highland distillery that objectively offers up one of the most interesting and unique flavour profiles in Scotch Whisky. In fact, Angus McRaild (on behalf of Whiskyfun) a couple years back wrote "...cries out ‘Fettercairn’ with these notes of mud, cheese rind, steel wool, mechanical oils, farmyard and root vegetables. Well, this is a clever addition to the range, isn't it? Fifteen years old and 50%. Wow. Colour us happy. If the team at Glen Grant realizes that higher abv in whisky like this has an appeal (mostly for textural reasons), why keep the rest of the range at 43%? Apparently, there are people out there that prefer their whisky at lower strengths. We've never met one, but I guess they're out there. Does that count as cryptozoology?
Anyway, let's celebrate the good! Great distillery, good expression, nice age statement, and a robust strength that suits the profile. Well done.
