It's a good time to be a Tomintoul fan (assuming such peeople exist). The distillery has never really cask much of a shadow here, but we are seeing an incredible range of releases available all of a sudden. Better still, a range that spans all ages and a whole load of unique expressions. If you're not a Tomintoul person, maybe now is the time to dive in. Truly an underappreciated whisky.
Producer Note: "Our 17 Years Old Pedro Ximénez Sherry Cask Finish was distilled in 2005 and matured initially in American ex-bourbon oak casks before being finished in the finest Pedro Ximénez Sherry butts from Fernando de Castilla in Andalucía, Spain. These sherry butts perfectly complement Tomintoul Single Malt by imparting rich fruit flavours, which enhance the character and complexity of our whisky."

Aberfeldy 18 Year Bolgheri Edition

Following on the heels of Pauillac 18 y.o., we now have a new wine-finished Aberfeldy. The producers tell us that "Bolgheri wines are robust, full of dark fruit flavours (blackberry, dark cherry) with an intense oak finish." Should be a pretty vibrant mash-up with the Aberfeldy distillery character. And just the mention of cherries has us salivating.

"Benromach Triple Distilled is a limited release matured in first-fill bourbon barrels. Passing once through the wash still and twice through the spirit still, it delivers a lighter style which offers delicate and sweet notes with ripe tropical fruits, malt biscuit and vanilla, leading to banana, green apple and subtle smoke."
