No official bottlings of Strathclyde Single Grain Scotch are currently being released by Pernod Ricard – not a shock since the company doesn’t do a very good job at showcasing many of its own distilleries. There have been a few different indie bottlings of Strathclyde to make up for Pernod-Ricard’s shortsightedness such as Cadenhead, Cooper’s Choice, and this mini from That Boutique-y Whisky Company, which we have only received in mini bottle form. 45% ABV

Evan’s Tasting Note

Nose: Wood and Carpenter’s Glue, soft citrus (grapefruit, lemon, lime), peaches and cream, yellow kiwis, bananas, vanilla and almond butter.

Palate: Sprite and ginger ale mixed together, bubbles and all, leading to a nice creamy texture. More apples, bananas, almond butter plus glazed pastries and a touch of marzipan.

Finish: Soft wood spices mingle with tingling citrus notes on the fade.

Comment: Smooth and easy drinking Single Grain Whisky with a nice bit of wood spice and citrus that keeps it all interesting and tasty.

Made from 51% Malted Rye and 49% Unmalted Rye distilled and aged in American Virgin Oak. This Millstone Rye is a single cask selected by Kensington Wine Market and bottled at a cask strength of 54.7% ABV.

Evan's Tasting Note

Nose: Pine sap, lemon jujubes, mandarin orange slices plus the fresh and bitter peels, apple cider, cloves, spearmint, cinnamon, cardamom, vanilla pods, and gingerbread cookies. It noses like you combined a wonderfully bitter Amaro with a botanical gin.

Palate: Apple strudel, lime green jelly beans, fresh mint, fresh dill, cloves, cinnamon and cardamom again, toasted almonds and walnuts, ginger liqueur and a touch of London Dry Gin.

Finish: Still full of fresh citrus and herbaceous notes with a dash of nuts and spices thrown in the mix.

Comment: This is very nearly a ready-made-cocktail-at-cask-strength of a Rye. It is fresh and botanical with a nice amount of oak to add to it all. It is less dense and more dainty than the regular Millstone Rye which I also enjoy. If you wanted a rye for all seasons from spring to winter, this might just be it!

Part of the Last Great Malts series from Bacardi/Dewar's - this 13-year-old from Craigellachie Distillery is bottled at 46% ABV. This 13yr old along with the rest of the Craigellachie official prime-numbered lineup was introduced in 2014.

Evan’s Tasting Note

Nose: Honey roasted peanuts, honey ham, chamomile, Crème brûlée, brown sugar, peaches and cream, white chocolate, mango, and apple crumble.

Palate: Sweet and spicy. Teriyaki sauce with pineapple, canned peaches, ginger ale, glazed pastries, nutmeg, chamomile again, and salty pistachios and cashews.

Finish: Warm and creamy with lingering honey and nut notes.

Comment: This 13-year-old has been a solid dram since its debut and continues to be an easy recommendation at its price point.

Inchmurrin is the largest island in the freshwater Loch Lomond, translating to "Grassy Isle" in Scots Gaelic. The Inchmurrin syle is distilled in Loch Lomond (the distillery)'s straight-necked Lomond Stills and it is unpeated, fruity and floral in style. The 12 Year Old is matured in first-fill & refill ex-Bourbon as well as re-charred casks. bottled at 46%.

Tomintoul is one of the many Scottish distilleries that used to tack on the name Glenlivet to its distillery name as a sign of quality. Fittingly it is only a few miles from the fabled Glen. Its 16 year is a soft, easy-going and pleasant expression that was matured in American Oak casks.
