Cadenhead Original A Tennessee 18 Year
$289.99
Distilled in 2003, this Tennessee Whiskey (similar to Bourbon, but filtered through charcoal before maturation) has been bottled after 18 years at 46%. Cadenhead doesn't state which distillery made the whisky, but it is likely from Cascade Hollow / George Dickel.
Producer Description
"Tennessee whisky from the same distillery as a previous popular Cadenhead’s release, this product of the Volunteer State has smooth caramel and honey notes – the soft nature of this dram will owe much to the Lincoln County process required by state law. Slight hits of root ginger add a little kick to the finish but the smoothness is further emphasised by the sweetened butter that appears to add another layer."
Cadenhead Original A Highland 37 Year
$929.99
This mysterious 37 year old Highland Single Malt was distilled in 1985 and matured in an ex-Bourbon Barrel before bottling at 46%. Some speculation online seems to point to it being a Glenmorangie... regardless it is a well-priced 37 yearold single malt, and has an 89.56pt score on Whiskybase.
Cadenhead Original Loch Lomond 17 Year
$229.99
Currently rocking a 87+ point score on Whiskybase, this 17 year old Loch Lomond single malt was distilled in 2005, and was bottled at 46% after maturing in Oloroso Sherry.
Bruichladdich Octomore 13.1
$274.99
This super heavily peated Octomore was made from 100% Scottish barley peated to 137.3PPM. It was matured 5 years in American oak casks before bottling at 59.2%
Producer Description
"Octomore 13.1 is as youthful and dynamic as its super-heavily peated predecessors. Distilled patiently from the 2015 harvest of 100% Scottish Mainland barley, this single malt is malted to a stratospheric 137.3 PPM and matured in the highest quality American oak casks.
"All Octomore .1 editions are distilled from 100% Scottish barley. They are primarily aged only in ex-American oak, in varying percentages of either ex-bourbon or ex-Tennessee whiskey casks. Acting as the backbone of each new series, Octomore's .1 releases demonstrate the raw character of the clean Octomore spirit, balanced with the modest ex-American whiskey influence - and offer a necessary comparison from which the other expressions alternate.
"After five aged years in first fill ex-American oak casks, our Head Distiller has offered a unique twist in this 13.1, having gathered and recasked the spirit in 2021 into yet more fresh, first fill ex-American oak casks. This final injection of flavour, taken from the interaction between the spirit and the oak, offers additional flavours of dark toffee, coconut and vanilla.
"This single malt is a testament to the trust our head distiller, Adam Hannett, has in the quality of his ingredients. Without more than patience and an understanding of how the flavours will evolve, this single malt perfectly personifies the courage of Octomore as a concept."
Bruichladdich Octomore 13.2
$279.99
Produced from Scottish barley, this 5 year old super heavily peated (137.3ppm) Bruichladdich has been matured in Oloroso Sherry Butts from Fernando de Castilla, Spain. Bottled at 58.3%.
Producer Description
"Following a similar path to the Octomore 13.1, this 13.2 edition is also distilled from 100% Scottish Mainland barley and has been malted to the same 137.3PPM. However, the entire maturation in first fill Oloroso sherry butts from Jerez, Spain, offers a unique opportunity to compare the two spirits - with the sherry influence beautifully complementing the smoke and vibrancy of the single malt.
"Using the same batch of super-heavily peated barley for both the 13.1 and 13.2 provides a fascinating insight in to the influence different cask types have on our Octomore spirit, with the maritime tang of Islay maturation complemented by nut, orange and dried fruit notes of the Oloroso sherry.
"At Fernando de Castilla, the Jerez based bodega these casks hail from, these casks have previously held sherry that is crafted under the same guiding principles inherent to Bruichladdich Distillery – with quality, the craft of the maker, and exceptional flavour in mind.
"Speaking of their importance on this particular Octomore single malt, Head Distiller Adam Hannett notes, “There’s a beautiful influence from the full-term maturation in these first fill Oloroso sherry butts. They’ve matured in the dunnage warehouses in the village of Port Charlotte, and the combination of cask and a slow and cold maturation has really accentuated the salty tang of the spirit.”
Bruichladdich Octomore 13.3
$262.49
Distilled in 2016 from Concerto barley grown in 2015 at Octomore farm. The malt was peated to 129.3ppm before being filled into first fill ex-Bourbon and refill ex-European oak casks.
Producer Description
"Octomore 13.3 is distilled from barley grown on Islay, on one singular farm and demonstrates the phenomenal force of flavour when combining super-heavy peat with the variable harvests gathered from the island of Islay. This release is matured in a foundational parcel of first fill ex-American whiskey barrels and a supplementary selection of second fill European oak casks, hailing from the Rivesaltes region of France and the Ribera del Duero region of Spain.
"Working with Islay barley is always a privilege. The ability to present it in a single estate, single vintage, single malt is perhaps even more poetic.
"From year to year, Head Distiller Adam Hannett works with the base spirit bestowed upon him by the grower, together with natural factors; the changing climate and weather system, agronomic yield and the terroir of the field itself.
"The European oak gives more subtle structure to the spirit, while the American oak allows the spirit to take centre stage. Expect vanilla and brown sugar, counterbalanced with fresh and round green fruit notes. The smoke is, as ever, gentle and dry, building to a long finish with hints of creosote and sea spray."
