Producer Description: "Kavalan Solist ex-Bourbon is a delightfully complex, multi-dimensional single malt whisky, with vanilla, fruit and coconut highlights. Matured in hand selected fresh American ex-Bourbon casks, the whisky is available at cask strength and non chill-filtered hence it retains a fuller flavour of a natural single malt whisky.
Sansibar The Clans Bunnahabhain 28 Year
$509.99
This is a lovely 28 year old Bunnahabhain bottled at 45.8% form an ex-Bourbon barrel. Scored 90pts with Whisky Fun, and is one of the more interesting late 80s Bunnahabhains we've seen recently. We've found those bottlings to be consistently good.
Andrew’s Tasting Note
Nose: hello; waxy, tropical and floral; savoury with juicy malt and melons; decadent, dusty and a hint of Flintstone Vitamins; honeyed with lavender.
Palate: round, creamy, fruity and honeyed; dusty, floral(lavender) and still tropical: beautiful layers of melons, orange rinds, mangoes and bing cherries; more Flintstone Vitamins and a touch of cough syrup; still savoury with maritime notes and juicy malt; some delicate spices: ginger and cinnamon.
Finish: long, coating, creamy and floral; juicy fruits and barley with spices, sea salt and lavender.
Comment: Flintstone vitamins, that note is a first for me; similar to the Thompson Bros cask; another beautiful late 80s Bunnahabhain from an IB, no surprise there; this isn’t the best of them, but it is very good, near the top of the pile!
90pts Whisky Fun
“Isn’t it refreshing to spot some Scottish clansmen back on some whisky labels, after having seen parrots, ducks, musicians, molluscs, cars, rockets, planes, chainsaws, girls, samurais, boats, dishes, atoms, motorcycles, guitars, insects, fish or jet fighters? Thank you Sansibar! Colour: pale gold. Nose: a blend of crushed chalk and limestone with apple compote and light honey, as well as soft porridge and brioche dough. A superb natural maltiness, and no oaky aromas that would get in your way. Not even the tinier nuts! A little mint and dill as well. It’s perfectly fresh. Mouth: lemon and apple juices, with wee touches of cinnamon and ginger. We’re almost in IPA territories here, Citra hops springing to my mind. A drop of seawater too, and touches of peppermint. Finish: medium, a notch more honeyed but the core remains lemony and mineral (or mineralic, as Angus would say). Rather salty aftertaste. Comments: a top notch old Bunnahabhain that leaves a wink for Highland Park, perhaps in remembrance of the times when both distilleries used to belong to Highland Distillers.” - $510
Sansibar The Clans Tobermory 23 Year
$459.99
!AVAILABLE BY REQUEST!
Bottled by Sansibar under "The Cans" label, this 23 year old Tobermory was filled in 1994 in to a PX Sherry seasoned cask. Bottled at 57.9%.
Andrew's Tasting Note
Nose: treacle, soft licorice, dark chocolate and chili oil; Christmas cake and candied fruits, firm leather, fruity tobacco and some musty dunnage notes; mince meat pie and marmalade.
Palate: softer than expected, sweet and fruity; round, rich and spicy; more treacle, Christmas cake and dark chocolate; on the spices side of things, candied ginger, cinnamon hearts and licorice Jujubes; vanilla with creme brule and candied orange; soft leather and more fruity tobacco; still earthy, but delicately so.
Finish: medium long with sweet fruits, spices and Christmas cake; drying with tingling spices.
Comment: I am really torn on this one, I can't decide whether I like or love it; reminds me of PX Glendronach; if I were a betting man, I would wage this started in ex-Bourbon and transferred to PX; either that or the PX Cask was made from American oak; either way this is a very interesting malt, and worthy of consideration; disagree with the Whisky Fun chaps on this one, I think this is closer to 90 than 84.

"Tobermory and PX, what could go wrong? Colour: deep gold. Nose: a lot of freshly sawn oak at first nosing, then rather stones and brake pads, as well as used matches. And yet I wouldn’t quite use the S-word! Then more and more ham and grilled meats, as well as touches of a drier Jägermeister and quite a lot of leather and green tea. With water: miso soup and beef bouillon, with garlic and parsley. Mouth (neat): powerful and rather cleaner than expected, on some kind of mineral and orangey notes, some pickled ginger, and perhaps a few black olives. I enjoy this very peculiar sourness that’s totally un-PX. With water: some used matches are back, plus some brine and lemon juice. Funny sour/acidic profile. Finish: long, with more pepper. Thai bouillon? Earthy aftertaste. Comments: some parts really reminded me of the Valinch & Mallet. Didn’t find much PX, but it sure is a restless dram. SGP:362 - 84 points."
Sansibar Clans Glen Keith 24 Yearr 52.2%
$374.99
This 24 Year old Glen Keith was distilled in 1993 and bottled in 2017 at 24 years of age from an ex-Bourbon cask by Sansibar under their The Clans label. Only 12 bottles are coming to Alberta.
Andrew's Tasting Note
Nose: decadent, floral and honeyed; lemon and pear drops, Dutch Baby pancakes with powdered sugar and maple syrup; polished oak and tropical fruits: bananas, pineapple and nectarines.
Palate: creamy, toasty and floral; rich, fruity and decadently spiced; more Dutch Baby pancakes and powdered sugar with maple syrup; lots going on on the fruit side of things: lemons, nectarines, pineapple and dried apricots; some nice layers, very pleasant and lively.
Finish: light and floral with good length; the fruits and decadent notes fade out slowly.
Comment: while they may not be the most memorable, I have yet to be disappointed by mid 20’s Glen Keith’s; my style of malt, old refill cask matured whisky where the delicate fruits and floral notes are given space to shine.”
86pts Whisky Fun
“These are not the easiest sessions to do, as the whiskies, although very good, are not exactly characterful and the various casks relatively similar. No, I’m not saying this is getting boring! Colour: straw. Nose: a little more buttery and sour, that may be the cask. White wine, lemon-flavoured yogurts, then oolong tea, grass… With water: barley syrup, breakfast cereals. Mouth (neat): good, punchy, citrusy and grassy. Less honey and vanilla this time again. With water: very good. Lemon curd, spread, orange blossom honey. Finish: medium, citrusy. Comments: one more point because I really love citrus in my whisky. But we shan’t try more than one more Glen Keith today, I can tell you…” -

$179.99

Evan's note - we did get more Imperial KWM casks - more than we could have ever hoped to! The days of getting casks from this closed and demolished distillery are sadly behind us now, though!
We are absolutely thrilled to have our first-ever exclusive single cask of Imperial. This 23 year old is from an ex-Bourbon barrel, bottled at 47.7%. Just 212 bottles are coming, and we don't expect them to last long. The last Imperial we had was nearly $300, and it was bottled at 43%. This one is cask strength, and it is a stunning tropical fruit bomb! We haven't seen a whisky from Imperial at our shop in over a year!

Andrew's Tasting Note
Nose: creamy, honeyed, floral and tropical; decadent, lemon and orange Starburst fruit candies; raspberry puree, vanilla cream and Manuka honey.
Palate: soft, creamy and floral; waxy with lovely soft vanilla notes and rich Manuka honey; bright tropical fruitscome in to focus including pinepaple, kiwi and mango; the citrus Starburst fruit candies are still there as is the raspberry puree; floral and even a touch pine-y, with only the faintest edge of bitter oak.
Finish: medium in length it is coating, elegant and smooth; more creamy vanilla, soft floral tones and bright fruits.
Comment: almost certainly America oak, this is my kiind of dram, old, oxidized and tropical; an excellent example of Linkwood; if you like them light, delicate and complex this malt is for you!
