This is a lovely 28 year old Bunnahabhain bottled at 45.8% form an ex-Bourbon barrel. Scored 90pts with Whisky Fun, and is one of the more interesting late 80s Bunnahabhains we've seen recently. We've found those bottlings to be consistently good.
Andrew’s Tasting Note
Nose: hello; waxy, tropical and floral; savoury with juicy malt and melons; decadent, dusty and a hint of Flintstone Vitamins; honeyed with lavender.
Palate: round, creamy, fruity and honeyed; dusty, floral(lavender) and still tropical: beautiful layers of melons, orange rinds, mangoes and bing cherries; more Flintstone Vitamins and a touch of cough syrup; still savoury with maritime notes and juicy malt; some delicate spices: ginger and cinnamon.
Finish: long, coating, creamy and floral; juicy fruits and barley with spices, sea salt and lavender.
Comment: Flintstone vitamins, that note is a first for me; similar to the Thompson Bros cask; another beautiful late 80s Bunnahabhain from an IB, no surprise there; this isn’t the best of them, but it is very good, near the top of the pile!

“Isn’t it refreshing to spot some Scottish clansmen back on some whisky labels, after having seen parrots, ducks, musicians, molluscs, cars, rockets, planes, chainsaws, girls, samurais, boats, dishes, atoms, motorcycles, guitars, insects, fish or jet fighters? Thank you Sansibar! Colour: pale gold. Nose: a blend of crushed chalk and limestone with apple compote and light honey, as well as soft porridge and brioche dough. A superb natural maltiness, and no oaky aromas that would get in your way. Not even the tinier nuts! A little mint and dill as well. It’s perfectly fresh. Mouth: lemon and apple juices, with wee touches of cinnamon and ginger. We’re almost in IPA territories here, Citra hops springing to my mind. A drop of seawater too, and touches of peppermint. Finish: medium, a notch more honeyed but the core remains lemony and mineral (or mineralic, as Angus would say). Rather salty aftertaste. Comments: a top notch old Bunnahabhain that leaves a wink for Highland Park, perhaps in remembrance of the times when both distilleries used to belong to Highland Distillers.” - $510

1 Per Customer - This is the old bottling of Bunna 25, we are expecting a big price increase when the new bottling is rolled out based on pricing we are seeing in the US and some parts of Europe.
Finally back in stock, but sadly we do have to limit to 1 per customer! Demand for Islay's sleeper distillery has been outrageous lately - deservedly so - but it does mean we have to try to spread the wealth a wee bit.
Bunna 25 (or XXV, if you're hung on what the labels say) is an icon. It is unquestionably one of the most rich and elegant 25s on the market. Expect that salty oceanic tang we all know and love, but at the same time expect it to be well-tempered with gorgeous old sherry and deep fruitcake notes. While 'fruitcake' is a bit of a cheat when it comes to tasting notes, it's hard to argue in this case. And man...what a mouthfeel.
Producer Tasting Note
Nose: Scents of rich sherry, blossoming into sweet caramel and polished leather.
Palate: An initial taste of sweet berries and cream that evolves into a feast of roasted nuts and malt.
Finish: Soft and dry with a delicate hint of sweet sugar and spiced oak that linger long on the tongue.
