A powerful 20 year old Ileach with a big sherried caracter (Refill Butt), bottled at 58.2%.
Panel's Tasting Note: "A big nose with lots going on. Carbolic soap, sticking plasters, treacle, hot smoked salmon, burnt heather and liquorice root added to the anticipation. Then a youthful woody spiciness together with jerk chicken sauce (rosemary, thyme, cloves, honey). The palate was massive with concentrated flavours and bitter woodiness. Water brought out prunes, raisins, lemon juice and old campfires. A musky aroma accompanied some lighter floral notes. A brief hint of struck matches to taste gave way to tannins, burnt heather, liquorice sticks and lots of sweetness. It benefitted from some water to calm it down. Of the three Kildalton distilleries, this is the one closest to Port Ellen."
Drinking Tip: "When you aren’t planning on sampling another whisky that evening."

Distiller’s Tasting Note
Nose: firm. Marked by burnt wood and spices (pepper). Fruity (apple, apricot) on a background of malted barley and menthol freshness.
Palate: full-bodied, vanilla. Heady florals (iris, lavender). Perfectly-integrated woodiness transcends the fruity aspect (apricot, raisins).
Overall: long, complex, revealing remarkable balance between woody, fruity and floral notes.”-

SWEET VERSUS SAVOURY
An 11 year old from the Kildalton coast matured in a Refill Butt and bottled at 56.3%.
Panel's Tasting Note: "Bacon, maple syrup and waffles vie with Black Forest Gateaux and sticky toffee pudding, while fried seaweed, spare ribs and black pudding tussle with lint bandages, and smoke. Sweet, rich, smoky, ashy, thick and herbal on the palate lent weight to the meatiness (pork covered in caramel). The addition of water brought forth aromas of smoked goose, salty scallops, toffee, Seville orange marmalade and fresh minty notes. The taste was chewy and rich but this time with scorched heather, burnt citrus, barbecued lamb & mint sauce, violet ice cream and caramelised onions. This distillery's mascot is Shortie the Jack Russell."
Drinking Tip: "A definite foodie dram - while spit roasting a suckling pig perhaps?"

PIZZA IN A SWEETIE SHOP
This 12 year old has been bottled from a Refill Hoggy at 54.5%.
Panel's Tasting Note: "We immediately entered a sweetie shop – wine gums, gob stoppers, apple jacks, Schloer (red grape variety) and other artificial fruits, with some tell-tale saddle soap, which we associate with this distillery on Ballindalloch Estate. At natural strength, the taste was sweet overall and complex, with apple and sherbet, and 'slightly burnt apple strudel, giving a hint of ash in the finish. A drop of water introduces Mr. Kipling almond slices with vanilla custard, soft leatherette and vine tomatoes, and the latter come through in the taste, with herbs and cracked pepper on a pizza base, but also some light toffee and spice."
