Sourced from vineyards in the Maule Valley, this is the only Chenin Blanc made in Chile. It is a pure expression of the terroir, with an amazing richness and intensity. Grapes are hand-harvested early morning at 23.5 balling. Oxidative style winemaking during the processing of the grapes. A portion of the grapes are naturally skin fermented in clay pots known as Amphora. The wine remains on skins in the Amphora for one month. The other portion is fermented as clean juice in stainless steel tanks and blended later with Amphora wine. Natural winemaking where there is minimal intervention – No stabilization, fining or filtration.

Testalonga Baby Bandito Stay Brave Chenin, skin contact fresh and unfined orange wine. - fermented on the skins for 11 days before being pressed off into old oak Foudre and barrels. No yeast or other additives apart from a small amount of SO2 shortly before bottling. Ambient fermentation and 100% malolactic fermentation. Unfined and only lightly filtered
Planted in 1981, bush vine (un-trellised), farmed organically. This is a 1.5ha block which was abandoned in 2014, they approached the farmer Rick Mcgrindle and asked if they could try and revive it. The first vintage in 2016 resulted in no grapes but in 2017 showed tremendous growth and yielded nicely.
Winemaker Craig says: 'Baby Bandito is a project we started in 2015. We wanted to work with vineyards that deliver wines that can be drunk young yet still “over deliver” in quality one would expect from our most affordable wine. There was a heavy influence from street artists (the good ones, not just your drunk student defacing someone’s wall, unless it was good) in the labels and the idea of a “series” using different and bright colours. The names of the wines come from expressions that we use as if giving encouragement to a child. Stay Brave is our “Baby” skin contact Chenin.'

after South Africa’s most iconic bay, which frames much of the country’s premium winelands, False Bay Vineyards was borne out of a desire to make ‘real’ wine affordable.
Back in 1994, long before founding Waterkloof (his biodynamic vineyard overlooking False Bay), Paul Boutinot came to the Western Cape to seek out and rescue grapes from old, balanced and under-appreciated vineyards. These treasures were otherwise destined to be lost in the large cooperative blends that were dominating South Africa’s wine industry back then.
Unusually for that time, Paul transformed those Cape gems into wines with a minimum of intervention: Wild yeast ferments, no acid additions…you know the drill. A familiar story to many ‘real wine’ lovers now, but back then he was swimming against the tide. Even today, making wine this way at the price level is almost unheard of.
Today the ingredients remain the same for Waterkloof’s Cellar Master Nadia Barnard: Fantastic coastal fruit, old vines and wild yeast abound, with additions avoided.
