Ouzo is a liqueur made in Greece. Similar to raki, arak, sambuca and pastis, the main flavouring component is anise which gives Ouzo its dominant black licorice aroma and flavour.

Made by the Gatsios Distillery of Arta, Greece, Koukoudo is a traditional Greek Liqueur made using droplets of resin from the mastic tree. The mastic tree itself is a small evergreen tree seen in the Mediterranean region.
Also known as Mastiha or Mastichato, the liqueur has a herbaceous/pine quality and is traditionally imbibed after dinner or to aid digestion. 25% ABV.

"Its basic ingredient is genuine mastic oil from the Mastic Villages of Chios. A strict, non-syrupy drink, with characteristic flavor and taste, where the combination of mastic and citrus fruits is not predominant. Served neat or chilled, but without ice, as this would change its taste."

In the year 2000, Georges Perrot established his own vineyards with land that he acquired as a result of his tenant farming or via sharecropping in the communes of Rasteau and Buisson, which represents an area of 15 hectares. With a helping hand from fate, he rented an old cellar for the 2002 harvest, and Domaine La Collière was born. In 2003 he built his modest little cellar in the Vaucluse in heart of the southern Rhone Valley. The wine is a blend of Vermentino (95%) and Clairette, fermented in stainless steel tanks followed by 8 months in barrique.

No vbintage or age statement. 90pts Whisky Fun! We decided to take a stab at this one, after a careful read of the Whisky Fun tasting notes, and especially when the wholesale price was discounted. Don't be surprised if we crack a bottle for a tasting!
Whisky Fun Tasting Note
"This year the NAS is not the Cynelish, it’s the Cragganmore. Not too sure about the rationale behind that. Maybe is it super-old and the distillers do not want us to have any preconceptions? Or maybe was the stencilling accidentally erased before they started to use barcodes on the casks? Or barcodes stripped away? Or is it just about blenders’ creativity indeed? About breaking them free from their shackles? Colour: gold. Nose: so very close! This is the 1999 at a higher strength, more or less. Same fat orchardy style, same herbal hints… I’m really all for this. With water: indeed, we’re extremely close. This one may have a wee tad more earthy earth. Perhaps cedar wood? Mouth (neat): totally excellent, and rather different this time. The fatness is there again, and so is the honey, but it’s also got rooty notes, between some kind of beetroot and sweet liquorice. Extremely creamy mouth feel. With water: maple syrup all over the place, plus a slice of pineapple and more honey. The earthy/rooty side is never far away. Finish: quite long, with a little more oranges, and plenty of fruit syrups. Perfect oaky balance. Comments: something extra. Really high-class, I’m starting to wonder if that’s not a cunning plan, bottling some perfect 25yo malt whisky, wiping away the age statement, and using these as proof of the excellence of NAS whisky in general. Come on, I’m joking! SGP:551 - 90 points."

Three Sisters Cabernet Franc

We are really excited about these wines, because one of the "Three Sisters", Rebecca Mikulic (nee Lawrence) used to work here at KWM. That and the wines are also delicious! Rebecca and her husband winemaker Matthew Mikulic grow grapes throughout the Okanagan, and have a winery on the Naramata Bench. This Cabernet Franc was macerated and fermented in small lightly pressed lots and aged 18 months in new and neutral American & French oak.
Producer Description
"All the grapes were grown by Earlco Vineyards Ltd. and sourced exclusively from the Naramata Bench. Picked by hand at optimum ripeness. The juice was macerated and fermented in small lots then grapes were lightly pressed. Wine was aged for approximately 18 months in a combination of new and neutral French and American barrels. Full malolactic fermentation occurred during this time and wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered."
