This Islay Blended Malt is composed of the whisky from Islay powerhouses Caol Ila, Bowmore, and Ardbeg. Oh yeah, and some distillery named Port Ellen. Bottled at 46%.
50ml mlEvan’s Tasting Note
Nose: Peat. No shock there, right? Cooking sausages on a barbecue, a salty brine full of fresh shellfish and white flowers, plus notes of pear slices, apple juice, black peppercorns, and a newly twined bale of hay.
Palate: Smoky lime juice – almost mezcal-like on entry. Pickled ginger, slightly bitter seaweed, sour beer, seafood fried in a salt and pepper batter, chili pepper flakes and a touch of sweet Riesling wine to wash it all down.
Finish: Salty and slightly tart with a chalky smokiness.
Comment: This is a multifaceted dram with plenty of youthful notes on both the fresh and funky side of things. Plus, a touch of underlying depth.

The Big Peat makes one promise: 'peat." Vatted from single malts distilled at Ardbeg, Bowmore, Caol Ila and Port Ellen. What more could you ask for? This whisky may be made with Bowmore and Caol Ila, but it is its Ardbeg which is most dominant. Given that Port Ellen has been closed for 35 years, and any whisky from that distillery is now very mature, even the addition of only a small amount is very special. Earthy, chocolaty, salty, smoky, peaty and lightly medicinal. This whisky truly is Islay in a bottle. 46%.

This is the second official Single Malt Whisky Release from Ardnamurchan. The AD 01.21:01 release is a batch made with a blend of 50% peated and 50% unpeated single malt whisky that was matured in a combination of 65% Ex-Bourbon casks / 35% Sherry casks.

The Kilchoman Machir Bay is matured in a combination of ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry casks, but much heavier on the ex-Bourbon side of things. The peat level of the malt is around 50 PPM and sourced from Port Ellen Maltings. This is the same spec that Ardbeg Distillery uses. Thanks to its peaty profile and mostly ex-Bourbon cask makeup, Kilchoman’s website states that the main traits of this bottling include “Citrus fruit, layered vanilla and butterscotch”.

Along with Inchmurrin and Inchmoan, Inchfad is one of three "Inch"es and a slew of other names/labels made by Loch Lomond Distillery. Also like many of the styles of whisky made at Loch Lomond Distillery since it started production in 1965, Inchfad gets its name from one of the islands within the freshwater lake the distillery takes its name from. This Boutique-y Inchfad is 13 years old and bottled at 49.5%.
