They started planting vineyards in Colchagua, eventually building a winery in Santa Cruz after years of selling bulk wine to large producers. The Colchagua Valley is located in the Central Zone of Chile. It's a 'transverse valley", which means that it is a valley formed by a river, in this case, the Tinguiririca, running east-to-west towards the ocean. Shiraz may be the regional hero, but Cabernet Sauvignon from the area can lay almost equal claim. Château Marsyas Red 2015 is effectively a Bordeaux blend with some Syrah added.. On the nose, the Cabernet Sauvignon dominates while the Syrah delivers some black fruit notes. The Cabernet Franc contributes some spice and the Petit Verdot an unmistakable freshness. On the palate, sensations of black fruit, pepper and even licorice give way to powerful, silky tannins. The whole is particularly alluring.

In this adventure, the two brothers are advised by French winemaker Stéphane Derenoncourt, who took part in choosing the plots as well as the grape varieties, before supervising their vinification from the first vintage released in 2007. Château Marsyas spreads out over 55 hectares in the heart of the Bekaa (whose name it borrows from ancient Greek), an alluvial plateau at an altitude of 900 meters bordered by the mountains of Mount Lebanon and Anti-Lebanon. In these iron-rich soils, where limestone outcrops everywhere, the vines plunge deep into the soil in search of humidity, while benefiting from exceptional sunshine.

To create 15 Year Old Viking Heart, Gordon Motion, our Master Whisky Maker, selected predominantly sherry seasoned European oak casks to deliver warm, spicy notes and sherry seasoned American oak casks to provide a balance of sweet vanilla. Expertly adding just a few refill casks to soften and smooth the flavours, Gordon chose to bottle at 44% ABV to allow the whisky’s vibrant fruitiness and distinctive heathery peat smoke to shine through.
About the Bottle
Why a ceramic decanter? Rewind a century or two and our whisky would have been stored in earthenware vessels. Inspired by examples found at our distillery in Orkney, we asked Wade Ceramics if they could work with us to create a modern version. Established in 1810 and based in Stoke-on-Trent in England (known globally as the traditional home of ceramics) Wade share our commitment to environmental responsibility, focusing on sustainable manufacturing and using locally sourced raw materials. The lead-free porcelain decanter is 100% food safe, glazed inside and out, and embossed with the lion and serpent design that appears on many of our glass bottles. Look closely at the back of the bottle and you’ll find the heart motif that inspired this whisky’s name.
