"Tucked in the middle of the Sancerre region is the Domaine Vincent Delaporte and Sons, a family business that has passed from father to son since the 17th century. The winery is located in the charming village of Chavignol, also famous for its goat cheese. Today, the domain flourishes thanks to the over 30-year-old vocation of Jean-Yves Delaporte (Vincent’s son) together with his wife and son, Nathalie and Matthieu," according to the Delaporte team. "This wine comes from sauvignon vines of more than 50 years of age, planted in flint soil. They are cultivated in traditional and reasonable ways so as to maximize respect for the ecosystem and the environment. The nose has a sauvignon bouquet of great smoothness (white flowers). In the mouth it is a silky rich, delicate wine with much richness and complexity at the back of the mouth. Good balance between alcohol and acidity, marked with a light wooden taste, always quite mellow (acacia, flavour of well ripened exotic fruits, with a mineral background). Balance and refinement form the basis of the Cuvée Maxime."

Formerly known as Domaine Bernard Fouquet, until Bernard retired in 2021, handing the reins to Charles Lesaffre. Charles is the grandson of Gérald Bruley des Varannes, the man from whom Bernard's father André acquired his first vineyards, thereby bringing the story of the Domaine full circle. An avid practitioner of viticulture and oenology, Charles joined Bernard as an associate in 2019. Two years into his tenure, Charles has emphasized organic and biodynamic practices. Charles has continued, as Bernard before him, to capture the unique Vouvray mineral tones, along with the wonderfully balanced expression of fruit of the Chenin Blanc grape, in his wines.
The Cuvee de Silex from Domaines des Aubuisieres is made from fifty year--old Chenin Blanc vines in the Loire Valley. Soils for 'Cuvée Silex' are exclusively flint stone (silex in French means flint), imparting a smoky, mineral essence to the wine. Look for a bouquet of pear, green apple, quince, and melon that develops notes of mineral and honey. The wine is ever so slightly off-dry, which lends it a juicy freshness. Expressive and exceptionally well balanced on the palate with lots of lemon and a trace of anise. Great with turkey, spicy Asian dishes and salmon.
