Machrie Moor is a peated single malt from the Isle of Arran Distillery. Averaging around 20PPM, it is a moderately peated single malt distilled at the Isle of Arran's Lochranza distillery, aged entirely in ex-Bourbon casks. It takes the name Machrie Moor from the largest peat bog on the island, which also is an area used often for archeological digs.
Distillery's Tasting Note: "Aroma: Subtle and elusive initially. Hints of fudge, coconut and spice with a teasing touch of the glorious peat reek to follow. Palate: Classic Arran at first with notes of citrus, orchard fruits and cardamom spice mingling in a rich melting pot. At the back of the palate peat smoke finally emerges to whip up a storm. Finish: The peat reek takes centre stage leaving a rich, warming glow like the burning embers of a bonfire."

The 2nd Edition in The Signature Series from Arran, which is planned to span four releases in total. Barrel Bonfire showcases and embraces the Lochranza Distillery's batches of peated spirit. The 42ppm malt was distilled in and filled into ex-Bourbon Barrels in 2012. It was transferred into ex-Koval Distillery quarter casks that previously matured Bourbon in September of 2018. The result was bottled in early 2024 at 50% ABV.
Producer Description
"Over the course of the secondary maturation, the intensity of the heavily peated whisky has taken on an even more complex and full-bodied character. The smaller the size of cask, the greater the surface contact area between the wood and the spirit, effectively creating an environment for ‘express’ maturation. The resulting whisky has the benefit of more intense flavours which add depth and greater nuance to the final dram. Smokier notes mingle with the well-loved charred citrus and sweet vanilla spices of Arran Single Malt, evoking a bonfire made from barrel staves."

The one we've all been waiting for. Finally, Arran's sister distillery Lagg has given us a core release. Last year's limited runs were fun, but Kilmory should be a little more true to what the distillery's profile should be like, going forward. The name refers to the small parish where the distillery lives. Matured in 100% first fill Ex-Bourbon, Kilmory is peated to 50 ppm (not far off Ardbeg levels!). We're kind of expecting sweet spirit with a really robust smokiness.
Natural colour, non-chill filtered, and bottled at 46% abv.

Producer Note: "Corriecravie is a hamlet just northwest of the village of Lagg that has its own secrets and stories to tell. This undulating terrain was home to some of the illicit stills that produced the infamous 'Arran water' in the days of early distilling on the island. And just near the village, there is the Torr a' Chaisteil Dun - a fort from the later Iron Age about 2000 years ago, locally known as 'Castle Hill.' With its sweeping views of the southern coastline of the island, Corriecravie is a place of beauty and intrigue that captures the essence of Arran."
"Coming to market shortly after the Kilmory, the Corriecravie Edition offers a unique twist on the Lagg Distillery spirit. After initially being matured in Bourbon barrels, this expression is finished for around six months in Oloroso sherry hogsheads sourced directly from producer Miguel Martin in Jerez. It is then bottled at 55% Vol, once again without chill filtration and with no added colouring. The result is a whisky that showcases a sweeter smoke and rich fruit notes."

Tomintoul Peaty Tang is made from a combination of unpeated Tomintoul malt and heavily peated Ballantruan malt also produced at Tomintoul. The result is a Speyside single malt with soft, approachable peat and smoke.
