It seems this one is the brainchild of Richard Paterson (Whye & MacKay) and Antonio Flores (Gonalez Byass). When alcohol is involved, you never know what's going to happen, right? A few drinks, a bit of amorous chat, and suddenly - surprise! - there's a wee offspring that's got a little bit of both parties in it (though it seems neither can properly make any sort of claim). Bottled at 41.3%.

"NOMAD begins its journey in the cradle of Speyside whisky (Scotland), to continue maturing in Jerez, in the Gonzalez Byass sherry casks in their legendary cellars, thus going beyond the rules. The first 6 years will be spent in bourbon casks in Scotland, and then, the liquid will travel to Jerez where it will remain for 1 more year in old Pedro Ximénez casks.
NOMAD is the only Outland Whisky ® that completes its maturation in the unique microclimate of Jerez, under the different temperature and wind changes that this city has. The Angel's Share that this confers to the liquid is 5% versus 1.5% in its place of origin, in Scotland. This great difference gives Nomad its unique personality and its unmatched rarity."

Not exactly a new concept, but perhaps the most coherent and well-executed example of blends that cross international borders and waters. Suntory tells us this five-sided bottle is meant to represent "the most prestigious whisky regions in the world" by marrying whisky (and whiskey) from some the industry's true titans: Yamazaki (Japan), Hakushu (Japan), Cooley (Ireland), Jim Beam (America), Alberta Distillers (Canada), Ardmore (Scotland), and Glen Garioch (Scotland). Each is meant to ante up with its "unique history and climate." And if you're curious, the name 'Ao' means 'blue', referring to the oceans that tie the continents together.

What happens if you age and/or bottle Scottish Whisky outside of Scotland? In most cases, you can no longer call it Scotch whisky!. That is part of the story behind Nomad Outland Whisky, which is made from a blend of Scotch Whiskies that were shipped to Jerez, Spain to mature.
The Nomad reserve 10 Year Old Triple Cask spends 6 years in Scotland, quietly maturing in American Oak ex-Sherry Casks. After this, the whisky is sent to Spain for further maturing in PX Sherry Casks and then further, further maturation in Oloroso Sherry Casks.
The result is bottled at 43.1% ABV, because 43% is obviously far too low.
