Bridgeland Distillery — Calgary, Alberta
Bridgeland Distillery was founded in 2018 and resides right within — get this — Bridgeland in Calgary, Alberta. If you are looking to go there — and I suggest you do — it is on the corner located on the corner of Marsh Road and Edmonton Trail; just a few blocks North of the Bow River and Memorial Drive.
The Distillery is owned by Daniel Plenzik and Jacques Tremblay and produces a wide variety of spirits distilled from grain and also grapes. One of the things that sets Bridgeland apart is the reuse of different casks that have matured their own brandies and whiskies to add character to other aging spirits. For example: reusing casks that previously mature their brandy to then mature or finish some of their whiskies.
There is plenty to recommend from Bridgeland Distillery. A good place to start would be with their Single Blend; which is an in-house blend that combines a variety of their whisky styles that gets limited releases each year.
Bridgeland's releases are updated regularly as the distillery and their casks continue to mature.

Bridgeland Distillery continues to experiment and expand its whisky portfolio - this time with a nod to the Irish. This Single Pot Still Whisky is made with a combination of malted and unmalted barley that has been tripled-distilled. The resulting whiskey is bottled at 40.6%.

Raw & Malted Barley and Oats are part of this special Whisky’s grain bill. Our 7th KWM exclusive Compass Box, and 5th "Marrying Cask," is a bottling of the Glasgow Blend, finished in an ex-Clynelish, ex-Buffalo Trace Bourbon Cask for roughly 1 year, bottled at 49%. Married: June 16, 2022, bottled: July 2023.
The Compass Box Glasgow Blend, is the firm sherried and peated blend, inspired by the type of whiskies Glaswegians' used to prefer 100 years ago. This batch of this malt-heavy Glasgow Blend (before marrying) was 35.2% 10 year old Cameronbridge from First Fill ex-Bourbon, 34.1% 10 year old Craigellachie from sherry casks, 18.2% 8 year old Laphroaig from Refill Bourbon, 9.9% 9 year old Clynelish from First Fill ex-Bourbon, and 2.6% Highland Blended Malt from French oak.

This is the latest release of "Berbon" from Bridgeland Distillery, which is just 5 minute drive down Memorial to the east of KWM!
This Berbon - as Bridgeland dubs it - is made primarily with corn harvested from Taber, Alberta. The specific mash bill is composed of 60% Taber Corn, plus 32% Barley and 8% Wheat both sourced from one farm in Penhold, Alberta. The spirit was aged in Virgin American Oak Barrels that received a #4 char. 45% ABV / 500ml bottles.
